shutter issue? Frame half black

Hi there,

I really hope you can help me out. I bought my first analogue camera - Canon FT. When I shoot, half of my images are half developed lets say. Some of the images are fine some are not. Not sure is happening. I've attached one incorrect photo and one that came out right. Please let me know if you know what's the issue. Am I doing something wrong?

Hi, thanks for your answer, apologies, English is not my first language (writing from Poland) CLA as in Clean, Lubricate, Adjust? Is this a common issue which a proper service should be able to fix?

This is one of the most common problems with focal-plane shutters in older cameras, or if they've sat unused for awhile.
At certain speeds, the opening curtain fails to fully travel across the frame before the second curtain closes the gap. A standard service repair (CLA) from a competent shop should take care of this. Usually it's just a lubrication and/or adjustment of the shutter mechanism.
Fortunately, the older Canon SLR's are robust, well-made, simpler cameras, so you shouldn't have much trouble finding a good repair person.
