Always be positive. "If you cannot say something nice, do not say anything at all."
I remember hearing about a study that was done with groups of writers/poets who would meet, share and critique their work. To keep it short, those people in the groups that kept comments positive were far more likely to continue with their writing/poetry than those in groups who did not.
