found a camera store that has a large stock pile of D-11 and technidol

the d-11 is in "paper" pack and the technidol is in boxes

considering clearing his shelves

I recently acquired a watson bulk loader with approx. 50 ft of tech pan, and another watson bulk loader with approx. 50 ft of ektachrome 160t

I want to try high and low contrast

I have been using Ilford delta 400 and Polypan F and D-76

It is your money.

I don't know about the Technidol, but D-11 is an M-Q developer with a large amount of Sodium Carbonate as the accelerator. By diluting it, I should think it would work for normal contrast film. Of course, if high contrast is your aim, it should work fine.

I am more thinking of the "scarcity" of a product that is discontinued and hard to find

perhaps should buy a "lifetime supply"

Don't bother most likely the developers will be useless. Often the boxes used polythene packaging inside this tends to breathe over the years and the developing agents oxidise. Foil packaging lasts substantially longer.

D11 you can make up fresh from raw chemistry, the Technidol need checking,. All the chemistry is well past it's sell by date so they should be sell for next to nothing or giving it you for free :D If not it's better to buy fresh alternatives from Tetenal, Moersch etc.

I'm still using foil packets of D-76 and fixer that I bought over 10 years ago. Of course I always do snip tests to make sure they are good. Take the chance if the price is reasonable. If they are asking full price I would say no.

As Tech Pan and Technidol is an extremly fine and easy to handle combination (if both are new) for high resolution it would be worth to consider the offer. The best would be if you could make an try and buy after (if everything works fine) agreement with the retailer. Or buy first just one Technidol bottle / pack if it is possible and develop a few test negatives. With the film loader you could load only a few ones and shoot them fastly. The D-11 stuff I don´t know, but if it is an interesting dev to you and it is powder then buy at a reasonable discount. Powder normally don´t gets rotten but you should also check first if it is still fine powder and not with sticky clumps due to humidity.

Best,
Andreas

P.S. I also like hunting for such bargains.

If you buy the technidol, and want to resell it, I'd be interested. I have at least 5 bulk rolls of Techpan and a fair sized stash of technidol but not sure if it's enough, so always looking for more.
