I like these. I’m in Chinese cities once or twice a year, though I haven’t been to Beijing in a while, and there’s always so much happening at street level. Great environment for street photography.

A lot of these nice photos looked like were shot at the Hutongs. It’s been a while. I am glad the city has preserved some of it, last time in Beijing I stayed at a boutique hotel in the Hutongs. i have images somewhere.

Nice shots. Do you know what the carpenter was building?

I'm glad you like these photos.

That is something called a "Lu Ban stool". It is made from a rectangular piece of wood through chiseling and sawing, without the use of nails or glue. It can be folded or unfolded manually. When folded, it can be used as a pillow, and when unfolded, it can be used as a stool. You can search for it on eBay.

Yes, the first two and the penultimate one were taken in the hutongs.
Could you share those photos? Maybe we didn't live far away at that time. Haha😃

Very interesting photos! Thanks for sharing. The carpenter earns his pay in a wonderful traditional way! Scenes of daily happy lives.

This was from a business trip from at least 20 years ago. The Hutongs and Wangfujing are my favorite areas. I am sure they look different now.

Wow, precious memories! That should have been the period when Beijing was preparing for the 2008 Olympic Games. At that time, I was still a student. However, after 2008, the changes in the old urban area of Beijing were not particularly significant. It's about a half-hour walk from my home to Wangfujing Church. Let me take a chance and look for this place in the coming spring.😜

I had a casual chat with him at that time. In fact, he doesn't make money from this. He just finds something he likes to do in his retirement life.
In any case, it is very comforting to see that there are people who can keep traditional craftsmanship alive, including you and me who still use film for shooting.🙂

That's a great thing! I bet his children and grandchildren have nice furniture. My father was a great craftsman, I have several pieces of furniture that he made.
Great photos, I look forward to seeing more from you!

Oh my god! My father is also a craftsman. Before I got married, all the beds, tables, cabinets and so on I used were made by him. We are really lucky to have dads like them. Haha😁
Thank you for your encouragement. I'm also willing to continue sharing some photos that I'm satisfied with.

That’s right. My employer was a Beijing Olympic sponsor. Your home is in a nice area. I think next time I’ll take the high speed rail instead of flying!
