Please do not invite Cheney.

Well, "Birdshot" Chaney's absence notwithstanding, this workshop is close! Like, next week!

Lee has traveled to California to "collect" Mr. McLean, and they should be on their way back to Texas, with stops along the way to burn sheets of film.

I am leaving Sunday to go to San Antonio, to do a little personal photography before the short trip over to Shulenburg to sit at the master's knee (or tripod leg, whatever).

Hope everyone else who's coming is all set. If there's anything I can do for anyone, let me know.

Cheers, y'all.

Lee is on the road as I write this, but when he checks back into APUG, maybe he will tell us a TIME to meet at Frank's! :D

For those of you coming from foriegn states, IIRC, you can't miss Frank's. It's on I-10 and the town ain't that big. "You can't miss it."

Good catch, David! I figured it must be sometime after noon (or it would be a 'breakfast' meet) :D but, yep... a time would be great! haha

Say, David... there is something you can do for me... what's the weather like down there? There's snow here, so only bone-headed high school kids are going around without coats, long pants, etc. hahaha

Good question, Jeanette. I would suggest all of you "foreigners" consult Intellicast.

http://www.intellicast.com/IcastPage/LoadPage.aspx?seg=LocalWeather&loc=ksat&product=Forecast&prodgrp=Forecasts&prodnav=none

Early next week, go into Intellicast and look up San Antonio and Houston and split the difference. Shulenburg won't come up - I tried. :D

It will likely be in the 70s or 80s. It could hit the 90s, but probably won't. It could rain, but may not. It could get cool at night. Welcome to Texas!

I, personally, will have both short and long pants, short and long sleeves, a jacket, hats, and rain gear. Of course, I'm driving. Traveling by plane presents a whole other set of problems, I understand.

Seriously, use the internet to get the best info before you leave.

For those headed down to TX for the workshop, wanted to let you know that I was down in the area yesterday (Sat. 3/11) and the Texas wildflowers ARE starting to bloom. There were Bluebonnets, paintbrush, Crimson Clover, etc in bloom. Hopefully when you all arrive this coming week they will be eve better. With the drought here it was questionable if there would be any, but the recent rains (small as they were) seem to have helped.

There can be quite a bit of wind and some clouds, but the clouds should burn off during the day. You will have some great places to work out of...Lee has picked a great area for you to shoot. Have some fun and let us see what it was like.

I'll be on the road within an hour (headed for San Antonio). Weather looks like it will cooperate (as much as it can) . It will be a bit humid.

Will also be off APUG for the duration. When I return, will:
  • the Soapbox be gone?
  • Art have a print exchange he likes?
  • Stephanie Brim or Jeremy Moore have bought another camera?
  • Kodak, Ilford, or Fuji made another announcement?
  • Blansky been shot by an irate ...
Who knows?

Cheers, Y'all!

The Texas Shooting workshop was a wonderful experience.
I had thought I wouldnt be able to attend the workshop earlier in the week but managed to get alot of work done and ended up attending the workshop (minus the first day) got there and met up with the group early friday morning in Schulenburg, TX. We shot at two churchs that day and the group was wonderful to spend time with. Saturday was spent shooting as well (even the rain didnt deter us) along with visiting a friend of Lees in Fayetteville. Free cake, coffee and alot of prints to see and good conversation, following two good days of shooting. That all makes for a wonderful shooting workshop, in my opinion. Thanks to Lee for planning and hosting, and to les for "leading". Good to see les as always, Janette, Lee, David, and Gay. Very good times.
I have developed my 8x10 and 3 of my 7x17 negatives so far and am amazingly pleased with the negs. cant wait to print them. (thanks to Lees reciprocity cheat sheet)

Again, thanks Lee and Les for the hard work and the great time.

Ah.... it was a great time, wasn't it!!! Even the close call with Mr. Cranky-Butt. :D (no, not Lee).

It was very good to see everyone again, and as usual to come away with an epiphany or two. If this keeps up, I may have to start taking my photography seriously!

For those who couldn't make it, you were very much missed, and for those who did, it was great, wasn't it?

What a great time is was. I really enjoyed seeing everyone. I also missed everyone who came last year and didn't get to come to this workshop. Jeanette, thanks for driving and keeping Les in line. I learned a lot, took a few "slaps on the wrist with a ruler" from Les for "lazy" shooting but I came away with a lot of new information or at least a better understanding of what I should be doing. What fun it was too, so much laughter. Matt, I can not believe you have already developed your negatives. I am barely back in Tulsa after swimming through Dallas to get here. I'm ready for another workshop!

So glad (sniff!) to hear (sniff, sniff!!) everyone had such a good time (sniff, sniff, sniff!!!)

Seriously, sounds like a great outing and very sorry to have missed everyone. Have not seen a report from David...hopefully he managed to paddle back to Dallas in the floods. A big Thanks to Lee and Les for the quick visit prior to the workshop...as always nice to visit with such fine folks.

Now, let's see some work!!!

No, you haven't.

Not only did I do the workshop, I spent the whole of last week week shooting South Texas churches. They totaled 18, and I have a lot of film to soup ... :surprised:

We had a great time. A bit dissapointing that there was only 4 of us + Lee and Les. Some had to drop out, others just couldn't schedule it, etc. And, I have no doubt that some of you just thought that South Texas wasn't that appealing. Oh, well. More time with the dynamic duo (Lee and Les) for the 4 of us that were there. :D

Spending three days with cameras, Lee, and Les McLean is an experience anywhere, plus we were in some nice country and saw and photographed several spectacular, historic structures. We also visited Jerry and Jeanette Brown's gallery, viewed some prints they had; and viewed all of the prints from Matt Magruder's recent show!

Alas, it seems that nothing got done at the cubicle farm while I was gone, so it's been a busy two days since I got back. (My God, was it good to be gone.)

Only storm damage (for us) was that my phone went out, and they (AT&T) promised me it would be back on Thursday. Interesting that the DSL still works, but no dial tone.
