shooting table; plexiglass vs. acrylic

Got a bargain today, followed by tragedy (far too strong a word) I picked up a Cambo shooting table with a 4'x8' opaque plexiglass top. All in great condition. While installing the plexiglass it broke. Now I need to replace it. Am considering acrylic because, I think, it will be more flexible. Should add that the table will be stored and used in the garage and we have very cold winters (South Lake Tahoe, CA). Price is also a consideration, as a 4'x8' sheet of acrylic will be just under $100 with tax and shipping

Is acrylic a good choice? The opaque plexiglass is in large enough pieces (so far) that it can be laid on the acrylic when lighting objects from below.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Shipping? Do you not have a local home improvement store (i.e. Lowe's). They should have what you need there, just a quick suggestion if you hadn't followed this rabbit trail yet.

Plexiglass is a trade name for acrylic...both the same class of plastic...I would think for a shooting table that you would want opaque acrylic...the stuff at most home improvement places is clear.

I have tried Lowes and Home Depot. They do have clear plexiglass, but the largest size sheets they stock are 3'x6' and they can't (won't) special order 4'x8'.

When plexiglass/acrylic is poured into the glass mold, the standard mold is 4´x 8´
3´x 6´was already cut from the original size.
If you can´t locate a plexiglass manufacturer nearby, look for your nearest luminous signs (I guess that´s the english name for the large signs illuminated from the inside by neon tubes) manufacturer. These companies buy 4´x 8´plexiglass by the stack and then paint them on the inside. They should be able to sell you a single sheet, either white or transparent.
