That's true...but Kumamoto is not Tokyo, and things become very boring very quickly once you move out of the downtown area, not that that's anything special to begin with. We were given a choice between Mt. Aso (volcano) and Huis Ten Bosch (a Dutch museum near Nagasaki, on the coast), but I think I was the only one asked and I thought a volcano would be more interesting from above so that's where we are going (we are also going on the date I suggested). I haven't heard back yet in terms of getting up front with the pilot so we'll see how that pans out.

A volcano would certainly be more interesting from above, no doubt about that.

Why wouldn't you want to take photos of the city from above? Maybe you could get a photo of your home, the school, some of your favorite places in the city.

Don't forget photos of everyone in the helicopter with you, the flight crew, have someone take photos of you in the air as well, you may never get to do this again, and I doubt you will ever say "I wish I took less photos when I went up in the helicopter". A photo of everyone with the helicopter on the ground will probably be the one you keep in your office so be sure you hand the camera to someone that knows what they are doing for that shot because that will be your display photo.

I can't recall if this was the term we used but if we saw a shot we wanted, we'd ask the pilot to 'platform' for us and they'd hover in one spot till done. open doors are best since you don't get the same buffeting effect as in small planes at speed iirc. I preferred open doors and small planes over helicopters but either would be a fun trip. headsets take a bit of getting used to

Hey maybe Sarah Palin could give you some hints. I hear she shoots from helicopters too. Just joking. I hope you have a lot of fun. I have done a fair amount of heli shooting (with a camera not a Winchester) and found a motor drive and a zoom lens to be very useful. That and high ISO.
