Hello All,

I've decided to sell my Coolscan V, I'm just not using it. I've read that some scanners have locks to stop mechanisms moving during shipping. This is just to ask, are there any precautions that I need to be aware of?

Thanks!

If there is a lock/stop, it should be referenced in the manual.
Many years ago I had a Konica-Minolta Scan Multi that I bought used from someone who didn't know that there was such a mechanism. They shipped it to me unlocked, and it required several hundreds of dollars to repair.
In that case, the lock could only be enabled through the Konica-Minolta software for the scanner. If that is the case for the Coolscan V, you will need to be able to run the original Nikon software in order to engage the lock.

Thanks, Matt.

Doesn't look like there's any mention in the manual and no option on the software so I think I'm good to just use lots of bubble wrap.

The Coolscan III has a thumbscrew that you insert to lock the transport mechanism, described in the manual. The Coolscan V manual doesn't mention anything like that, but they say to insert the slide adapter before transporting the scanner.
