hi,

has anybody of you ever ordered a ground glass at 'Satin Snow Ground Glass'?
And how long did it take till you got it.

I ordered and payed one December 2007 and did not get it yet. The problem is the guy does not answer mails. So I cannot find out whether the item got lost on its way to Germany or not.

Dave has ceased activity, but I read on the LF.info forum that he committed to delivery of the orders...

Loss during shipping was one of his main concerns.

Kind regards,
Geert

He is getting orders out again. I got an older order than yours a little while ago.

For what it's worth, the quality is excellent. Easily two stops brighter than the original that I broke.

Thanks Terence.

That's the kind of information I hoped to get.

I'd still try to contact him though. The LF Forum posts had some info on his tribulations over the last year and a half. Pretty serious stuff, so I was willing to cut a lot of slack, but I also do this only as a hobby, so I have all the time in the world.

I also tend to cut slack for the small business folks running a cottage industry out of their houses, especially when it's a good one. But I can certainly understand how this can cause major issues for others who rely and depend upon such operations. If this was my profession, it would be another thing entirely.

Terence,

I agree with all you write.

I contacted David in the meantime and he answered that he had shipped the glass and that he will send another one (!!!) because mine did not get here.

A reason more to cut slacks ...

It is too bad about Satin Snow.

Re: Terence's comments on small businesses, in this same vein, Jim AKA Western Bellows has been having some difficulties as of late, and is stuck dealing with the VA health system, which is, let us say, less than ideal. (Both he and I are Navy vets, so we talked at length about it.) Some extra business pointed his way may make it easier for him to deal with these difficulties and keep doing what he loves to do: making amazing bellows for us! Due to declining demand and the difficulty in running a small business alone, he is working out of his home workshop as well. He does great work...but has no apprentice. Every apprentice he has trained has skipped out on him and tried to start their own business, and he stated that he is done with apprentices! When he can't work any more, things are going to get a lot more difficult for those of us in the U.S. who need bellows! Send him your best, and your business.
