After having read here that the Sir who was behind Durst USA died recently, I jumped on one of the very last Femomask 6x9 available. I had those in my "favourites" for years and years, but the unreasonable price always refrained me from buying a pair in order to replace the beaten-up Femomask 6x9 that I used so far (which, moreover, looked not being a genuine part). Since after his death I realised it was a "buy it now or forget it forever" scenario, I finally made a step forward.

I finally received the Femomasks, which as said are 6x9 even though I think this discussion applies to all other formats as well. They are well crafted, but all edges are machined unreasonably sharp in my opinion. Durst Italy original parts were nowhere as sharp as these, and actually everything feels rounded and smooth to the touch. They're not exactly knife- or razor-sharp, but I can easily imagine getting wounded by running my fingers over the edges with some pressure. Even just mounting them on the Femoneg carrier feels uncomfortable and fearsome.

Most of all, I fear that the film would be scratched, should it slip between the frames and then moved/pulled in order to re-sit it, which is something that often happens with 6x9 format, as the film is usually trimmed to two-images sections. What's your experience with Durst USA Femomasks? Were you also impressed by how sharp their edges are? Did you ever had damage to the film?

Yes, I was surprised by how sharp mine is as well but so far, no problems. I initially thought of reducing the sharpness by sanding them down with a ver fine grit sandpaper but never did so.
Durst Pro USA supplied me with quite a few hard-to-get accessories; there is no one left like him.

Hello Renato and thanks for your comment. I was indeed considering to unsharpen the edges as well, but since you said that they never were a problem in practice, I will leave them as they are.
