Yes, I remember well. I always got a kick out of what my father labeled "so called" higher education folks when they screwed up. He used to say, "Ahh, book smart, common sense dumb"! As if uneducated folks were given a pass for doing something stupid. I always like what the writer Mark Twain wrote of his fater and it mirrors my experience growing up in real life. Here it is:

So no cheap 120 film for me this summer. Oh well. I was excited. Guess the Brownie will stay on the shelf for the time being.

A few years back I got a 10 pack of GP3 in May, oh how it seemed the possibilities were endless...that was also the summer of $8 FP-100C

Updating a question that was asked a few days ago, has anyone received their order yet? I made two orders of 10 rolls each from two different vendors but have not received anything yet. One has a tracking number, and tracking indicates the shipment is in transit.

Both I and a friend ordered one from the mingskd seller. Both were delivered to the wrong location. We're thinking they might have put the wrong addresses on them as part of the scam, but that can't be proven as is.
If you ordered anything from them, I wouldn't hold your breath.

I’m still waiting on my second order. No tracking number on it, so I’ll have to wait a few more weeks, then file for a refund. I assume my chances are low, but eBay will give me my money back, so I’m not worried about losing money.

I ordered from "wama0923" and did so under no illusions. eBay estimates 16 May to 4th June for delivery. I have no tracking number, so will file on 5 June if nothing appears. S/he did have some Fuji C200 for sale at a low price too but currently is listing nothing. It shows they sold 60 of the GP3 bricks, which was the number advertised as available.

We shall wait and see...

I made one order and got a tracking number as well. The seller has been removed from eBay, but the order status is still shipped. It should arrive before the end of the month. If it doesn't I will indicate a "did not receive" and see whether or not I get my € 9.45 back. It was a gamble ... I knew that before hand.

Has anyone tried contacting eBay to find out how and why these bogus sellers are showing up on eBay? It's not just Chinese sellers that are pulling this scam either. A few months ago I was surfing the 'cameras & photo" section on eBay and stumbled onto some very cheap listing "buy it now" for items like Rollei 66, Hasselblads and other very expensive equipment. The seller had probably 50 items or more up. eBay showed they were New England states based and the description said so also. Thinking this was to good to be true I started going through every item, description by description, picture by picture. I found several pictures with palm trees in them and as far as I know there are NO palm trees growing in the back yards of folks living in the New England states. Of course I haven't been there in a few years and if there are palm trees there it proves to those "Global Warming" naysayers that Global Warming is a fact. Anyway, the same day all listings were wiped out. I'm still puzzled as to what these bogus sellers gain by doing this? It must be some kind of monetary reward or it wouldn't be worth their time and effort. JohnW

www.FreestylePhoto.biz just cut their prices on Foma films and paper. There may yet be hope for your Brownie.

That's great news and I hope it lasts. If this Chinese/Shanghai GP3 film company went thru the expense, time and manpower to update and modernize their film production plant they are going to have to sell film to keep it running. That means they will have to lower their prices or they can't compete. This should be a win-win situation for us film burners and the film makers also if they are smart enough. I like Foma 100, but I'm not a big fan of 200 and 400 ISO. JohnW

Very interesting. Foma prices are now the same as the Foma-manufactured Arista Edu Ultra brand film sold at freestyle.

I ordered ten-packs of gp3 from two different ebay vendors. One order had a tracking number. According to the tracking system the order was delivered to a town about 38 miles from where I live. Ebay just refunded my money on that purchase. I am still waiting to see if the other purchase will be delivered.

The thread had a ? at its end and seven pages later that ? seems prophetic. It started with e-bay and seems to have largely remained with e-bay and scams.

If the Shanghai company simply moved location( what's the evidence for that, by the way?) why does its sales seem to be solely through e-bay?
I'd have thought that a company like Shanghai would be selling through big distributors and not e-bay sellers . How are these sellers obtaining the film which doesn't seem to be on sale by major retailers such as those in the U.K. and U.S.?

Let me say I have no problem with the kind of lively discussion we have been having for about 5 of the 7 pages. It has kept us entertained but can anyone sum up what the ascertainable facts are about Shanghai film?

I’m not sure any of us who took a chance at ~$10 for a 10 pack have received anything. I don’t mind much, I expected they were scams, but I trust in ebays restitution mechanism. I’ve frequently gotten great deals by taking a chance on zero feedback sellers that other buyers avoid. My first pack was refunded almost immediately. My second order “shipped” three weeks ago, with no tracking. In another week or so, I’ll start the refund process to get my $10 back.

I'm disappointed though, I really wanted some cheap 120 film for the summer. Paying $5+ for ten or 12 exposures is a little out of my league as of now.

I'm hardly surprised, and it's not like Foma and Rollei branded film are exactly expensive. But truly cheap 120 film would have been great for using in my box cameras and toy cameras. Especially as they were designed for slow speed film.

So, in a nutshell was the whole thread based on what was a scam? There never was any revival of Shanghai film or a move by the company to new premises which was simply a falsely plausible way to explain why Shanghai film disappeared in the first place?.

No, there is freshly made film available from the Shanghai film company. It is simply not priced at less than a dollar a roll. I can buy it for about $2.80/roll + shipping on Taobao. Ebay will be more expensive since there are less sellers there. I remember there is s guy on LargeFormatPhotography who is buying (and reselling) directly from the factory.

Thanks for the information. In summary it is fresh film and there are/may be some genuine sellers on e-bay who buy directly from the factory and re-sell at a profit. Clearly anyone offering it on e-bay at $2.80 a roll is doing it "for love" and anyone offering it for less is likely to be a scammer.

Do you or anyone else know why Shanghai as a film producer is not selling it to the major retailers or why the major retailers are not stocking it?
