I have noticed 220 Shanghai GP3 being sold on AliExpress.
There are many 'stores' selling it. The advantage is simply less frequent reloading...I will report on the quality when I have tried some.
The shipping from China to me in Australia is usually just 2-3 weeks.

Mr GP3 Official,
Are the packs for all the new production of GP3 in 120, 220 and 620 marked "Shanghai Jian Cheng Technology Co Ltd" or "GP3 New"?
I ask because as of Nov 2021 there is a small amount of GP3 still for sale with different marking on the pack.

Hi
I think this because during the old and new version alternate period, some distributors still have old stock so you can see different package on the market.

if someone or if group order you can find me directly and do this kind package service for all the existing film.
MOQ will around 200 Rolls to start with.

200 rolls sounds a quite reasonable minimum order. Surely with the interest shown on Photrio there could be a group order for Portra that would reach 200 rolls?

Have you fully thought of this?
To do so Kodak Alaris would have to sell them big rolls of Portra 400. I do not see a point for them doing so.

Maybe GP3 Offical Account meant this offer based on being sent the respective films.
I got not idea how they could gain "all the existing films" as stated.

To be clear I haven't heard back yet but I'd be very interested in doing a Canham ULF style pre-order. I believe I could fulfill the minimum quantities needed.

If Kodak Alaris would sent out Portra 400 master rolls or rather pancakes for such, they would

-) canabalize their own Portra type 120 business

-) feed a deal where they do not yield all profit

-) risk their reputation in case of bad quality of the conversion

Well, based on our experiences we might argue on each point. And we may argue why in other cases manufacturers sold their films for rebranding or conversion by competitors. But in all the cases where they had control on, they thought to win more than they loose.
But this is dependent on the very case and thus a statement as "all existing films" is most questionable.

You might be able to make a deal with whatever Kodak let them put in Lomo 800. Not a bad film at all.

Maybe but worth exploring either way. Cinestill does what they do, and had a TON of QC problems in the past. It's gotten a lot better but you still have issues sometimes. Considering 220 was more than double the cost of 120 back when they killed it, it would still be true now. People who need it still need it...the vast majority of shooters do not.

Really what I want is Portra spliced and packaged for Super 8. I could run it in an RT machine dry to dry and Super 8 does not really need all the low con tech of Vision3 processing. There are a few products I'd like brought to market if only I could form the right relationships...working on all that!

I expect you would have to agree not to identify it publicly as Kodak film.
Which would in turn require you to order enough to make custom edge printing economically feasible.

Well, look what the mailman dropped off...

I'll have to dig up my 220 insert for the ol' M645 and give this stuff a whirl.

I don't think Kodak has ever sold any of their top line colour materials for off-brand use. That was Agfa & Ferrania's market for a long time.

The best case scenario would be that Kodak would agree to do 220 runs on the same basis as the special LF orders. I don't think they're likely to be terribly willing to sell pre-slit doughnuts of their premium colour neg films for use as effective direct competition against themselves.

If Shanghai are able to do a run of colour 220 film (Portra, Kodacolor or anything else good quality) I'd be in on a handful of rolls.

So if this potential order for 200+ materialises, I'd like to be informed. I believe my local lab can process C41 and E6 220.

Again not something I'd use often but....be useful on one or two occasions a year. I have 3 rolls of the GP3 220 awaiting a suitable occasion.

I cannot see how Shanghai or any other company can respool Kodak Portra and make it cost effective. There is little in the market for 220 film, little incentive to build or expand the market, and very little enthusiasm on my part to step into the market.

But what about Lomography? Some of its color film used to be /is kodak. And Lady Gray 400 was TMAX 400 in disguise. Arguably TMY is top-line... but well, granted: it's not color.

What is the source of this information? I ask because in the U.K. TMax400 in 120 is about £11 per roll but Lady Gray is only just over £6 per roll

If it's the same film then it is difficult to believe that it is one and the same film.

Thanks

The materials Lomo package seem based on the amateur aimed Kodak colour materials. Lady Grey 400 was Fomapan from what I understood - at least latterly. Some time ago (ie 10+ years) Kodak did sell some B&W materials for rebranded use (Freestyle's Arista Premium or something like that). But not Portra or other professional colour materials.

Yes please! I'm very curious to see if they resolved their QC.

Almost all the Shanghai film problems are the results of pour QC. Kodak invested very heavily in QC from the start.

It used to be the same film. This was widely known.
