Semi-matte Fiber paper

I was wondering if anyone could share their experience with using semi-matte FB paper. I've mostly used glossy and I've been fairly happy with it, but recently I tried Ilford Art 300, and I *really* like the finish. However that paper has a very prominent texture, which can be an issue with certain images. So I was wondering if semi-matte FB could get me a similar finish without the surface texture, and even if it can't, what is it like, similar to "pearl" RC or another thing completely?

I've used Slavich as you are describing and like it. Smooth with a matte surface. I'm sure there are others as well.

I use the Ilford Warmtone in Semi-Matte as my preferred paper, but I haven't any real experience to compare with others. I would describe the finish as matte with a slight surface luster, I don't think of it as textured -- certainly not as much as the "pearl" surfaces I've seen. I like it as it one less surface to reflect glare from lights behind the viewer, although that may be not a big deal, as the prints are usually mounted under glass/acrylic. (Guess I'm just not a glossy sort of guy! )

Semi-matte works well for some images, but bear in mind that it will have lower d-max (that is, the maximum black will not be as black) as the same paper in a glossier finish. It's just inherent in the way reflected light behaves. For many images this may not matter. For some it may. It depends on your taste and and your style.

I have seen one print on Art 300 that I received in a print exchange and I liked it and think it would work well for SOME but certainly a minority of my images. I may have to try some myself but you're right, there is significant texture.

i'm mostly a glossy paper kinda guy... and have used various other surfaces over the years... my thinking at this point is certain negatives or some peoples style, photography or theme fit one surface versus another.

often i'm more impressed with other peoples choices for image/theme that i am with my own.
