I recently purchased the above noted light meter which came with a "shoe mounting plate" that can be attached to the meter body. The meter can then be slid into a camera's hot shoe to be used as an on-camera meter. Included with this mounting plate, there was an o-ring. The instructions state "in case a shoe mounting plate is not fixed to your camera, please put an O-ring in the groove of shoe mounting plate". It appears they mean that, if the mounting plate is loose in the hot shoe, put the o-ring in the groove to take up some space and provide a better fit. For those of you that have this meter, is that the correct interpretation? I don't plan to use the meter on camera, but am curious at to the use of the o-ring. Thanks, ronwhit

Makes no sense to me. Neither the original text nor your assumed meaning.

Accessory/Flash shoes and feet are standardized and there are springs in the hot shoes.
It do not see how a O-ring could achieve a better fit.

Or there would be a groove for an O-ring around the stem of the foot; a weird construction.

EDIT: It is actually the latter !

(well, as fast the ring might get cut at some shoes as fast it would be substituted...)
