I have just started using this meter and it makes a faint but audible humm. When you take a reading
I have used Minolta meters for years never heard a peep out of them.
Anybody else experience the same? Regards Gary

The humming sound is from the Indiglo illuminator for the LCD panel. It should only do it when the backlight turns on (when you take readings in low-light it comes on automatically). I used to have an L-508, it did the same thing and i had it for a decade!

Thanks Chris, Yes it is only while the lcd panel is illuminated , Just have never heard a meter make a noise like that before , i'll get used to it and it should only happen when i'm metering in low light which is the only 1 project i've used it on so far (the exsposures were spot on). Cheers Gary

They hum, though perhaps some more so than others. My 558 is audible only when I put my ear to it with the backlight on.

I have exactly the same meter and it does hum. I purchased this meter last year new. If I put back of the meter right up to my ear, it's fairly loud and clearly audible. I'd bet there is a DC/DC inverter inside for the illumination.

I wouldn't worry about it and until now, I didn't even know it hummed.... It's a great multi-purpose meter!
