Seeking advice on galleries or museums in New York city to view classic photography.

I will be taking a bus trip to NY city this Saturday the 10th. I will be dropped off at Times Square. I will be in the city from 10:30 am until about 7 pm.
I would like to view some quality photography exhibits. My biggest interest is to see some photography from before 1900.
Can anyone please suggest galleries or museums I may visit while in the city. I will be able to walk or take a cab, I get around without bother.

If you haven't been to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, I would recommend you add it to your list.

Hi StephenT,
I really would like to visit the Met. Today I looked on their web site and saw only one photo exhibit about nothing I heard of. Lots of wonderful things on display, but I saw nothing stellar photographic listed on display. Have I missed something? I would have thought they would have some great images to view.

Hey Sam. I don't recall that they had a significant amount of photographic items the last time I was there. But don't miss the opportunity to spend some time there. You could spend the whole day if you like to stare! Some truly great "stuff!"
