Following Axle and CGW's lead, our second spring film meetup will be at Hamilton Harbour on Saturday, May 21st at 1pm.

There's parkland, sailboats, and docks. And a retired navy frigate we can board with our cameras.

(As the later afternoon light becomes sweeter, we can visit the Royal Botanical Gardens nearby, if anyone is interested and still has some colour film left.)

Co-ordinates are (43.277, -79.860). From Hamilton centre, take Bay N or James N to the water, following signs for "Parks Canada Discovery Centre" and "HCMS Haida". We can meet in front of the Williams Coffee Pub. Plenty of free parking right there.

I'll have free CafePress APUG mugs for those members that show up. The first six, anyway.

This is informal, open to anyone, so bring your friends, better halves, etc.

Look forward to seeing you there!

Oh, if you are coming from Mississauga or Toronto and need to pick up some film, paper, or chemistry, the best place to stop is Burlington Camera, here: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=489+Guelph+Line,+Burlington,+Ontario,+Canada&aq=0&sll=43.340536,-79.789667&sspn=0.032523,0.066776&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=489+Guelph+Line,+Burlington,+Halton+Regional+Municipality,+Ontario,+Canada&ll=43.339381,-79.786792&spn=0.008521,0.016694&z=16

The chems & paper, as well as new & used darkroom stuff is downstairs.

Sounds great!! Will do my best to attend! (May have to miss the first one; I'm in a production of My Fair Lady and may have a full day rehearsal that day).

It is in my calendar. Now to see if any family committments come up to conflict.

Oh, and as to Dave's plug for Burlington Camera, really, if you have never stopped in you are in a for a treat. When I run out of stuff photographic, they are my first go to place.

When I am passing by mid day on the way back from a meeting , or whatever, it is a frequent place to call on.
Frequently Joan or Brian have some expired paper or film stashed away bought as part of an estate purchase that they knows someone will be interested in.
It is always worth asking, if you don't see what you want.

I sadly won't be able to attend this meet as I'll be burning through film down in Watkin's Glen, NY. But yet, Burlington Camera is a great store, plus one of the few in the area that has Pentax 645 gear

I'm in a production of My Fair Lady and may have a full day rehearsal that day.

Ah the joys of community theatre. Which company is staging this production, John?

I am usually involved in a few musicals at least backstage working on lighting every year, and my wife more than that.

I just finished installing a refurbished 96 channel dimmer rack into a high school theatre we work out of that we bought out of an idled City TV newsroom for a very good price It took me and others 6 thursdays in a row, and a full Saturday to bring back into service in a form to meet our needs. Others in the lighting crew installed more circuits to the lighting pipes to bring our rig up to something like more than 200 channels. Then another 4 nights to hang the lighting rig for the current production 'Urinetown'.

The company is Etobicoke Musical Productions, a west end musical company I have worked with for over 20 years.

If this is your first musical, and are still otherwise working some sort of a 9-5 job, you will soon learn why the week of rehersals before the show opens is called 'Hell Week' by many.

Hope you have a great time, both in rehearsals and with the performances.

A qualified "maybe" but doubt I can make. Hoping to arrange a shooting meet on June 18 or 25 at the Street Classics Show & Shine Association cruise nite in Etobicoke. Details TBA.

Really looking forward to attending the meet-up on the 21st, after hearing about the one on the 30th on the Film Photography Forecast. Now to decide what cameras to bring ...

Same here!

Camera Gear... FM2 with 28 and 50mm lenses, Pentax 645 with 35mm and 75mm lens, and probably my Holga as well. Or if it's nice, the Agfa box with Verichrome Pan and

Film: Portra 400 (35mm), Ektar 100 (120 and 35mm), HP5 (120 and 35mm) (or Tri-X if it arrives this week, in 120), Verichrome Pan (Exp. 1975) (120).

This Saturday, 1pm

Okay, so looking forward to seeing all who can make it. I met Stefan from Waterloo and John from Hamilton at the PHSC show on Sunday, and they should be able to make it, and CowanW is hopeful as well.

If you want to board the navy destroyer, I'd recommend packing a wide-angle lens. It's not a guided tour -- you have the run of the ship for as long as you wish, above and below decks. I don't think they like tripods, but there are plenty of railings and bulkheads to to brace your camera against when you shoot below deck. I think it's about $5 or $6 to board, and quite an interesting experience. Good views of the harbour from the upper gantry and bridge.

If we walk west along the parkland and docks, there's a rail marshalling yard adjacent to a walking path. And east from the coffee shop is the more industrial landscape.

Looking forward to seeing everyone!

I will be there, David. Bringing my Hassy for some landscape (Industrial if possible) with the tripod so I may not board the destroyer.

Thanks David, that is great news; then I can also bring my Canon FTB with 24mm FD lens for the interiors. We're going to have fun...

Hurray - the forecast even says sunny day! Finally.... At least I have all of the at home preparations well in hand.
My bags are packed, and lay behind the front door ready to go.

Fresh E-6 and C-41 chemistry was compounded last night and is now mixed ready to be used.
All back logged slide and colour neg films are loaded onto reels and tanks are ready to run tonight and tomorrow night.

Fresh RA-4 developer and blix working tank solutions and replenishers are even ready to go for the roller processor.

All back logged 35mm, 120 and 4x5 b&w films are now hanging in the drying cabinet.

Heck, I even gathered up all of the 12 months worth of spent bleach and saturated fixer and the ra-4 roller processor's over flow tanks munge that has piled up, and packaged them all in well labelled old 2l pop bottles ready to be taken to the Region's HHW depot tomorrow.

How is that for some deferred spring cleaning in the darkroom?

It seems like (and actully, really has been) months since I got active in there. The last shoot at the Distillery District really got me motivated again.
That, and getting re-assembled after two unplanned water intrusions in the last four months from the main floor bathroom that sits directly over my darkroom.

I am taking two of my three Minolta SLR's for a walk this weekend. The X570 for some b&w exposing , and the X-700 for some C-41 and E-6 exposing.
I pulled some the usualy suspects (winder, hot shoe flash and 50mm macro lens) out of the X-700's normal bag to make some room for the 'less usually travelled' bits
Namely a pair of Manfrotto super clamps, a couple of adjustable heads for the clamps and my IIIf ambient/flash meter.
There are still a 24, 50, 135 and 70-210 in the lens compliment. Can you tell I hate being short of lenses in a new shooting situation?
I figure that there will be neat spaces to be imaged below decks, and the clamps will allow me to clamp the camera or flash lighting to something solid as lilkely will be needed.

I am also planning on bringing a bag that carries my mid to late 70's old Norman 200B pack and head flash rig.
I bought for a song ($15 with a load of other stuff in the same box) and brought back to life last summer.
It can work with a small soft box, or a small polished reflector that travel with it, or bare bulb.
There is a wireless trigger pair to sync it to a camera as part of the rig.

It is great for lighting small or big dark spaces. The Norman kit all gets dragged about in a military surplus olive drab padded nylon bag that once held a radio, I think.
It was given to me by none other than Mr. DWW. He passed it on to me a couple of years ago.
At the time neither he or I could think of what to use it for. Well, a bit of time later it has found a role in my pile of gear.

After seeing how pleased Alex was on finding a pair of metal 120 take up reels as a part of some found film at last week's camera show, I dug out three empty steel 120 spools from my stash of idle 120 spools and backing paper (yes, I do save some of that too!) for his use.

If Harry makes it down, I have brought along a pair of scrap 120 films to give to him, so he can practice loading two 120 roll films end to end onto a single Paterson reel.
Once he has that skill mastered, he can use it to stop wasting his chemistry's capacity during his C-41 or E-6 film processing runs.

I hope that there is a good turn out for this event.

I bought 150 10x12" sheets of Kodak graphic arts EL film on the big auction site, so I am thinking of cutting some down to 9x12 cm and bringing my Voigtlander along. From what I've been reading so folks have had success getting continuous tone results by developing in dilute Rodinal or HC-110.

Should be a fun day!

Travel note: For anyone coming from Toronto for the meet-up tomorrow, the Gardner Expressway is closed this weekend, so you may need to plan an alternate route and perhaps adjust travel time, depending on where you are coming from.

You missed a nice shooting day, Harry. Six of us made it out, and lots of machinery between us, including a Polaroid, an 8x20 Burke & James, Hassy, Pentax, and Mamiya MF outfits, an Exacta, my Stereo Realist, and a few miscellaneos SLR's and PnS's.

I did some 3D stereo shots from the upper deck of the Haida and then ran off a roll of my ultra slow pan separation film, which is drying at the moment and looks pretty good.

Look forward to another!
