Can anyone suggest a good place in South-East Michigan for buying darkroom supplies and paraphernalia (e.g., trays, cylinders, chemistry, etc.). Thanks,
Ted

Freestyle Photo Supply on line. Good prices, great customer service, BIG selection, and speedy shipping.

Most of the photo shops here in Southeast Michigan have closed down. I believe Huron Camera in Dexter still sells darkroom supplies. I would check there first as I believe Big George's in Ann Arbor closed their photo section. I believe all the Adray's around town closed as well.

Dexter

Greetings from Pinckney/Dexter area: Huron Camera is very much alive and well in Dexter, Michigan. I try and buy all my supplies there as I like to shop there and support George. Between there and Ebay for misc stuff, been able to keep my lab going  Cheers, Steve

Likewise, however, a few weeks ago they were out of both fixer and D-76 so I ordered on-line. It would be my preference to use Huron Cam. Might be worthwhile to call ahead and see if they have what you need in stock.

Thanks, Steve. I haven't been into Huron Camera for a while. Guess I need to check, and support a local business.

Not much left here in Michigan. Adray had the most comprehensive stock, but sadly they are no more. Camera Mart in Pontiac still has some chemistry and a few supplies, but I would say your best bet is to order from Calumet (www.calumetphoto.com). If you order by 3PM it will be to you via UPS the next day. A little longer across the bridge I am assuming. Freestyle takes up to 5 days in these parts for delivery although still a good source, but that would take even longer for you in Canada. If you are closer to TO, go there.

I was just in Huron Camera yesterday and they have loads of stuff! I plan to buy as many of my chemicals and supplies there as I can - George and the rest of the crew are great (just got my 5d sensor cleaned and they may help me with CLA for my LF lenses) and certainly deserve your business. Give them a try! They're also very knowledgeable and have LOADS of used gear!

Adray's in Dearborn was my favorite place. I bought my 4x5 Toyo there and all my darkroom supplies. They closed after I had moved away. What a shame!

Does Nathan Camera in Royal Oak still exist? He had darkroom chemicals too.

I agree. They didn't have what I needed that particular day, but they usually do. I would estimate half the store is dedicated to film one way or the other, and as noted lots of used gear, most 35mm, but lots of browsing material.

I bought a fair amount of equipment from Tom. He sold everything several years ago and went back to school at UM. Majoring in law, I think. Saw him at Zingermann's in Ann Arbor a couple of times but it's been about 5 years since we last talked.

Edit: Tom is here: http://www.nathanneuman.com/tnathan.html

B&H seems faster than either Calumet or Freestyle.
Formulary is very good.

B&H is easy if you need Saturday morning overnight !

I had some good news the other day that Adray might be opening the photo part of their business again in a new location. I was told "soon" and that it would be within walking distance of my home here in Dearborn. I hope it comes to pass!

Don,
Karen drove by in the bright yellow stang while I was on a walk and yelled the news out the window in true Karen fashion. "Scccchwaaab..... !!!!"
