I just wanted to invite anyone in the Minnesota / Iowa area, or those of you traveling through, to the opening of my exhibit at Bethany College. This is the first solo exhibit of my Great River Road work, photographs I made along the 3000+ mile road that runs alongside the Mississippi River. The show will feature about 20 of these photographs, all of which are 4x10 Azo contact prints. The details:

Scott Killian - "Along the Great River Road"
Ylvisaker Fine Arts Center, Bethany Lutheran College, Mankato, MN
Gallery Talk & Opening Reception: 7pm, November 2nd, 2006

For a map to the college or other details, drop me a PM or visit my Website at www.scottkillian.com

In the meantime, I look forward to meeting any of you that can make the opening!

Best regards,

Congratulations, Scott!

I moved the announcement to where it should be, BTW.

Thanks, everyone. Although I don't live in Minnesota anymore, I hope to see some of the MN Appugers there. If we can get 10 folks from APUG to the show, I'll even eat Lutefisk !

Ryan - not sure what you were driving at in your post... ?

LOL, for your sake, I hope you can only get 9 Apuggers to come. Lutefisk is horrible!

That explains it - all the lutefisk-lovers emigrated to Minnesota and the rest of us "normal" people stayed behind!

Amund & Ole,

Yes, Lutefisk has become quite the running gag with many Minnesotans, although some old timers still eat the stuff. (Lots of Scandinavian live up there). I remember a billboard ad campagin in the city that showed a bottle of Windsor Canadian Whiskey with the words "Lutefisk Helper". I've never tried it, but the smell is enough to knock me over!

Congratulations Scott. I imagine this has been a while coming, and it looks like a tremendous amount of work has gone into the series.

Wish I could be there, Scott. You going to be showing anywhere closer to home in the near future?

Scott, if I'm in town I will try to make it down there. Anyone else from Minneapolis or St. Paul planning to drive down?

For those who may not be aware, lutefisk is dried cod that is soaked in lye to "reconstitute" it, then washed in water to get the lye out. I've never tasted it, but I suspect it's an acquired taste.

And for those who haven't had the opportunity, the drive along the "great" river (the Mississippi) from Red Wing to Winona in Minnesota is beautiful.

Hi Jim. Nothing scheduled out east, but since the project isn't complete, I haven't been pursing any exhibit opportunities just yet. This show in Minnesota was something that sort of fell into my lap. I have no set plan for a specific number of photographs that will allow me to call the project finished, but it kind of feels half done to me. I looked at this show and the gallery talk as an opportunity to discuss my experience of working on a large project like this, how my vision has evolved along the way, taking stock of the "halfway point", how the photographs relate to one another, etc...

mgb74: I've received emails from perhaps a half dozen folks that say they are coming to the show. If you can make it, please stop by and say hello.
