Does anyone have experience using Scotch Positionable Mounting Adhesive? It claims to be "Acid-Free", which they qualify to be "Ph of 7 or greater as determined by modified ASTM D778-97 (by extraction)", whatever that means.

They also say it is "Photo Safe".

Does "Acid-Free" mean archival? They don't use that word anywhere on the box, so I'm suspicious.

I guess it means they think it's safe, are willing to assume it's safe, and even willing to say it's safe - but don't want to be sued if it isn't?

In The Permanence and Care of Color Photographs, Wilhelm Imaging Research (Dead Link Removed ) they state that 3M Scotch No. 568 Positionable Mounting Adhesive is OK for RC prints - not for fibre (pp 369).

Bob.

The 3M (Scotch) spray adhesives are great for many uses.

I've used them extensively for mounting commercial work with Resin Coated papers, B&W and Colour, and prints mounted 25/30 years ago are fine.

However I'd never dream of using them with Fibre Based papers prefering Dry mounting if it was required.
