Hello APUG Gurus

I have a Tachihara 4x5 and regularly use a 75mm Grandegon with no problems. I am interested in getting a Schneider 47XL an am wondering the following:

Will I be able to take photos with out the camera front appearing in the image?
Will I be need to make the 47XL work with a Technica Recessed lensboard with angle release?

It seems like if I tilt the back all the way back and then use front tilt and rise to match, I can get the flat flange within 47mm of the back with no movements. That configuration also seems to get the front of the camera out of the way pretty well - I understand this lens won't allow for much movements but I wonder how much movement would actually be needed with such a short lens anyway. I guess the Tachihara is not too different from Shen Hao or some of the other light wood field cameras - I was hoping to hear from someone that uses this lens - what are the challenges and drawbacks? It looks like a lot more view than 75mm - would the Grandegon 55mm be more practical and give me the same result with less headache? I would mostly use it for landscapes.

I once had a Tachihara, and I doubt that it would work. The difference between the Tachihara and the Shen Hao in that respect is that the Shen Hao's rear standard can be shifted forward to effectively make the camera shorter (closer to the front of the focusing bed). That, along with the movements you mention will allow it on a Shen Hao and many others, but I couldn.t use a 55mm on my Tachihara, much less a 47.

The easiest cameras to do this with are the non-folding wide angle cameras from Ebony (45S, 45SU), Walker (XL Wide), and (if you can find one) Shen Hao TFC45 (or TFC45-IIA). These have very short beds that do not get in the way no matter how wide the lens.
