schneider lens age?

I searched the forums and can't find it. I'm sure I saw a link to a page that will help you identify age of schneider lens based on serial number.

also what should one expect to pay for a used 75mm SA in newer copal #o?

Schneider publish a list of serial numbers & dates I looked at it lasy week.

75mm f8 SA's sell remarkably cheaply, and are superb lenses, I paid about $250 for one in good condition last year from Italy, it was new in its box !!! I was watching another on ebay 2v weeks agothat went for $190. Mines on a 6x17 camear and it really is a stunning lens, I'm contemplating buying another for 5x4 use as coverage is much better tan the 65mm SA I currently use.

I found the page. it appears it is from 1970. any ideas what its worth? and is it possible that its multi coated?

Mine's a 1977 f8 version, while it doesn't say Multi Coated the coating is excellent and works well, I can shoot into the sun with no flare or drop in contrast while a 3 year old35mm SLR lens flared badly.

My older SA's a 65mm, 90mm & 165mm are older but also good and flare free, although not a heavily coated.

it also Has sinar engraved in green around the inner ring that indentifies the lens. I've never seen this. does it mean anything significant?

Sinar and Linhof tested & selected which lenses they wanted to buy and sell with their cameras, sometimes that adds a little to a lenses value, slightly better quality control.

$540 sounds about right and a very good price, personally I wouldn't pay £540 / $1080 for an f5.6 version.

Thats probably a good price, the lens has better coverage than the f8 version, youn might get one for less but they aren't as common as the f8 version.

If the serial number indicates it was made in 1970, it's not multicoated. Schneider started multicoating their lenses in 1977, starting with the Symmar-S series. Multicoating of the f5.6 Super Angulon series began in the summer of 1978. If it's multicoated, it will say withe MC or Multicoating on the outside of the front barrel.

$540 would be a good price for a newer, multicoated sample in excellent condition. For an older, single coated sample, I think I'd pass at that price (or try to talk the seller down).
