Hello Everybody, I have a schneider linhof marked 300mm symmar from about 1957. Does anybody know the filter thread of this lens. I haven't got the tools to measure it.
Thanks for your answers
Mads

There was a typo error in the heading, it should read 300mm not 300m!

My 300mm Symmar-S MC (serial number 139932XX) has a 105mm filter thread near as I can measure. The thing is a really an impressive hunk of glass, that is the reason I always use my 300mm Nikkor-M with a 52 mm filter. The older 300mm Symmar looks like 86mm for the filters on the Schneider site. Is bigger better? K

Thanks David and Kirkfry for your answers.
Now I'm off looking for 86mm filters.
I don't know whether bigger is better but I sure love my symmar (I'm kindda' glad linhof handpicked it for me, so I'm sure I've got a good one).
I can't imagine it being any bigger but from what it sounds like yours must be even bigger than mine!!
By the way my symmar has the serial number of 4929282 so from looking at the schneider site it's most likely from 1956.

Loman, I like my symmar-s for image quality, but it is the newer 105mm type (f5.6) and filters cost too much. Take a look at a 105mm polarizer some time! I found some surplus WWII filters which fit perfectly (when used with black electrical tape). They are just glass without the threaded metal rim, but are the exact size of the front lens metal's outside diameter. It is a wonderful lens and I now have a plain glass, yellow and red filter for it, complete with the military surplus wood box they came in with olive drab paint. tim

Hello Tim
Sounds cool!
I found a minus blue filter on ebay. But I'm still looking for a red filter an orange filter and a regular yellow filter. Shouldn't be too hard to find, hopefully.
