So, I order a 105mm Schneider Componar from KEH. It was described as having an m39 mount without mounting ring in bargain condition. Well it arrived and it is really nice shape. No marks or other problems with the glass. The big problem is it is not m39 mount. I measured with a pair of calipers at 41.88mm. I grabbed an m42 mount camera off the shelf and sure enough, mounted right on. After a few choice words I calmly called KEH and requested to return it. Well, they credited me for the purchase and just told me to keep it.

Here are my options:

1. Modify one of my Beseler M45 Enlarger lens boards to accept the lens and source a 42mm mounting ring.
2. Try to find a m42 lens board and mounting ring.
3. Fabricate a lens board to the best of my ability and use it.
4. Try to sell it and find another lens that is in as good of shape but only in m39 this time.

What would my best course of action be?

Thanks in advance for any inputs.

Make sure there's not an adaptor already fitted. , I think the lens thread mount is actually M32 on early ones, and M39 later and definitely M39 on the Componar-S. I know there was an adaptor on my 100mm Componon S.

I’d suggest #1 or #2.

Thanks for the info, I found it was an adapter. The lens is a native 36mm. I am using the adapter on the back side of the lens board as a retaining ring. I think it will work out OK. I might have to blacken the adapter on the back side.

The older metal barrel Schneiders were all smaller threads, and I knew the 105mm Componar-S was 39, so it was logical there was an an adaptor, but they are so well made it can be difficult to spot they are there. The lens is probably native 32mm but the way it's measured may add the extra 4mm.

I'm sure you'll make it work :D
