Scanning glass plates with V700

I have just been made aware of a family archive that contains a number of 100 year old 6 3/4" x 4 1/2" glass plate negatives. Does anyone have any tips for scanning them using a V700? (I have a betterscanning mounting station, though I can't see how that could be used.)

Very easy. Just get a sheet of thin black matte board, or something like it in plastic, and cut out a template that follows the outside dimensions of one of your Epson film holders. Make it identical, including the open area at the end for calibration. For best results, the thickness of your material should be approximately the same as that of the Epson holders. Then, cut a frame in the middle of the template over which you will place the glass plate holders. The thickness of the template on all sides will keep the glass plate from touching the glass, and at approximately the same distance from the glass as if you were using Epson holders.

The other option appears to be to scan with the lid open!
