Scales.

My scale that I inherited died the other day and I need a new one for weight out dry chemicals. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to get a decent one. I'm not looking to spend $300.00 but I would like one that's going to be accurate.

Please don't spend $300 on a scale. That is way tooooo much. A good postal digital scale for 50-70$ would be more than you would ever need.

I didn't plan on it. I was looking on B&H and I saw their prices and almost soiled myself. I asked a coworker and he has an old triple beam balance that he said i could have for $25.00. I'm all set now.

I bought a new Ohaus triple bean a year or so ago and could not be happier using it to weigh chemicals. Why would some one on the APUG list use a digital scale? I know my scale is accurate and I'll never have to replace the battery. With some care in use, my great grandchildren and beyond should enjoy this scale. Bill Barber

As far as digital scale on APUG how do you think all the photos in the gallery get there? Or the pics in the classified or the links to interesting articles or websites. All digitally and with a computer.

I hate to waste it. Doing this as a hobby costs enough (according to my wife sometimes it cost too much).

If you head over to Ebay you can find a testing weight. They are usually 1-3 ounces that are perfectly weighed so that you can put it on the scale before weighing anything and know whether or not the scale is measuring accurately.
Or do as I do and find out the exact weight of a quarter or silver dollar and use that to calibrate.

I had to stop at Harbor Freight to pick up a brush to remove rust on a old floor drain and they have scales that go to 01 grams for $14.99. I don't know how accurate they are (I've found HF to be cheap quality). I did pick one up just in case my co-work falls through. Plus I always have a backup.

Coincidentally, I stopped into a 100 year old hardware store 2 days agi and they had a die cast ohaus scale for $10.00. I couldn't resist!
