Hi all,

I used to hang out in another popular photography forum, now it has gone almost completely digital. I got a pointer to APUG.org by someone in that forum. I read some of the posts in this forum and I like it, very technical and informative.

I am an amateur, I have a day job as a programmer, otherwise I am out shooting. I shoot 35mm, canon EOS 3. I used to shoot print (NPS 160) and Ilford panf 50/ delta 100, now I mostly shoot slides, Velvia 100F, Astia 100F. I love doing people photography, and "environmental portraits". I also like to do travel photography/street photography. I also do some abstract work. I am taking baby steps towards Medium format, digital wont catch up to it in the next 5yrs (may be), 35mm might dissapear or become too expensive, I dont know... to me digital photograhy is like taking a machine gun to go duck hunting... I dont think I am good enough to show you any of my photos . I looked at some of the member photos and they are way way above mine... But I will post some eventually...

APUG.org has a lot of postings abt workshops, something that I have never seen on the other forum I was on. I live in Austin TX and would like to attend a workshop on people photography ( dallas/houston/austin area). Most of the workshops that I have seen on the internet are prohibitively expensive. Are there any local APUG member gatherings? meetings at coffee shops etc for chat?

Well, some, yeah.

There are a few members in Austin. Maybe some of them will see your post and respond.

There are several of us in Dallas/Ft. Worth/Denton area, and we actually have seen each other from time to time. Six of us met at a coffee shop a few months ago, and 2 or 3 get together and go "shooting" from time to time.

We also had a workshop in Ft. Worth in May that had 12 participants from all over the country. Then there's the conference next year in Toronto.

Anyway, good luck and welcome to APUG. You'll meet some of us eventually.

Cheers

Welcome! I'm here in Austin and a programmer as well. Drop me a PM line if you like. Between work and kids I'm pretty busy so I haven't been doing any workshops, etc. The only interesting thing I know of in town right now is the Ansel Adams exhibition at the Harry Ransom Center at UT. Hope to go see it myself soon. Good luck and happy shooting.

Welcome Manjo, I too do programming. Seems a lot of IT people are into photography. I would encourage you to go ahead and post your photos in the standard gallery as a start. The feedback will be invaluable and help you improve. The critique gallery is geared towards serious critique while the standard is for general comments.
