Hi Dave,

I am sure I will be visiting down that way, sometime next week, Les McLean is suspose to be arriving at my place after he does his workshop this week, and we are thinking about venturing down to Yellowstone, so Fourmulary is right on the way, I have some glass ground up, that has no homes right now, so should be able to bring some down for you guys to look at, What days are you all going to be down there, I would love to take a visit and spend some time with fellow appugers.

I just tried to order a piece of glass on your website and was told after I entered all my credit card information that my e-commerce session had timed out. I did it twice, just to make sure the error wasn't on this end.

Is this intentional, because of your backlog? If so, can I order via snail mail? If not, you need to have a talk with your webmaster.

Jim,

Where did you enter your credit card number? as the shopping cart we have one the website is a paypal system, which requires a paypal account, you should not have to enter credit card information anywhere if you have an account with paypal, as far as the webmaster, that is me, as we also run a webhosting and design company, and on our glass website, we have not set up a traditional shopping system as of yet, that is why we choose to use the paypal system, you should just have to click on the buy it now button, which will take you to the paypal system.

If you wish to use a credit card we also have the ability to take Visa, M/C and Discover over the phone for orders, as well as having a downloadable order form for snail mail orders.

Let me know, or give us a call between 9am and 5pm Mountain Time and I am sure we can get things worked out.

Paypal, has been good for those that have an account, but I know they have had a few problems lately, and unfortunately I don't have any control over their system..

On your site, when you are asking about size of the clipped corner, is this the diagonal across the corner after it has been clipped? I've thought about ordering, but haven't because I wasn't sure what this dimension referred to.

Hi colreogan,

I measure back from the corner and then clip across the diagonal to do the clip, in other words, if it was a 1/2 clip, I would measure both sides back 1/2inch and then clip across the measurement..

I hope that is clear, if not, drop me a note and we can go from there, to arrive at the correct clip dimention for your application.

WOW!

The difference is vast. My original Zone 6 10x8 screen was fine, but the satin snow is far brighter (thinner and whiter glass..less green cast) and much finer ground. I have found that this fine grain enables detailed foliage or twigs to snap into sharp focus, unlike before, where it tended to go from fuzzy to less fuzzy (focus) to less fuzzy again. This screen gives you real confidence. I find that I can focus my camera accurately without a loupe, as it is blindingly obvious when focus is sharp as things are actually pretty sharp rather than less fuzzy. I still use the loupe to be sure, but wow.....

My 5x7 might well end up with one....

My hat goes off to Satin Snow, especially in the value department. Most businesses would have gone down the 'rip'em off c'os this is photography' route, but they have gone down the 'make'em so cheap there is no excuse not to fit one to every view camera' route. How refreshing!

After a home made GG in my first home made 4x5 camera, I bought a Satin Snow glass and loved it so much I bought a spare.

I now have a 5x7 Conley and an 8x10, both with good glass. I am hoping I break them so I have a valid excuse to replace them with Satin Snow

I agree absolutely. When my Bush Pressman GG broke I ordered two from Satin Snow and the one I have installed is brilliant. In fact I find I need a loupe to adjust my glasses. With normal vision I probably wouldn't need a loupe.

I took a picture with a camera with a Satin Snow Ground Glass and it came out awful. It was overdeveloped, badly composed and the subject had their eyes closed.

See? Satin Snow GGs aren't so great

Hi Steve,

Rest assured, we are getting as many as we possibly can shipped out everyday, I am currently shipping 10-20 orders each day, and have been on this schedule for the last month now...

When we started this little "part time business" I never realized how many LF cameras are out there, we are comming up on over 6000 screens shipped in a bit over a year and a half!!! and for a two person company, that is quite an accomplishment, as every single piece we do is hand ground and fitted.

Sorry it takes as long as it does, but it should be there soon.

No problem. My comment was more tongue in cheek. When I ordered it, I was aware that it would be a while. I have a small company that makes darkcloths for Photographers' Formulary and B&H. Its just my wife and I making them. I know what you mean about getting backlogged sometimes.

I talked to Formulary here about a month ago, and they wanted me to produce screens for their store, and unfortunately at this time, I can't even consider it LOL We are hoping to be able to clear our backlog status by the end of October,,
