Aside from a possibly missing back, as John noted, the wood looks to be in reasonable shape. I don't think I'd try patching the bellows:smile:

Strongly resembles the Sanderson Junior model : https://collectiblend.com/Cameras/Houghton/Sanderson-Junior.html
Why do you think yours is the Tropical version?
Because it is very different to the junior and exactly the same as the mid version of the tropical. Why do you think its not? http://www.earlyphotography.co.uk/site/entry_C330.html
Not sure if it were a special order or just switched the badges around to say Harrington and co.. Missing the front name plate so will never know.

Don't think duct tape will fix it ?
Started pulling it apart and wood and brass are good. Pretty solid camera when the front standard is locked in.

...Don't think duct tape will fix it ?...

I forgot, "if it moves and isn't supposed to, use duct tape, if it doesn't move and is supposed to, use WD-40".

It looks like it will be quite pretty when it's all spiffed up.

Since yours does not have the extra brass reinforcements (which the tropicals all had), and since yours is made from Mahogany, which was the wood for the regular Sanderson camera.
The Tropicals are all made from seasoned Teak.

Therefore yours does look exactly like the Junior.
(so I may hope you didn't pay what should normally be a higher price for a Tropical version of the camera); however in this condition it should not value much even if it would be a Tropical version.

Which junior?
Junior doesnt have a hinged back.
This is advertised as a Tropical and is exactly the same as mine. https://en.todocoleccion.net/old-ph...tropical-ross-6-inch-caoba-inglesa~x212934188
So whatever camera that is thats what I have. I will change the title once I am satisfied which model it is.
I didnt buy it as a collector, I bought it as it was relatively cheap and that it looked like something I could rebuild or as parts for something else. It was advertised only as Harrington & Co. camera. Have no interest in the value only to use it.

Comparing to some raw mahogany I have, it does look the same. Might be a "Regular". Interestingly my Victo Superbe looks teak and is supposed to be mahogany. Makes no difference to me.
Back standard of the Sanderson with Mahogany under, next to my Victo Superbe which is much more of a golden brown.

Interesting wood work skills, might keep it that way.

Folded down.

Fully extended goes to 500 mm about the same as the Victo.

The front standard when locked upright has a small amount of rise.
20210626_153516.jpg

When you unscew the lock nuts out, the slide can come out to extend the front standard a little awkwardly.
20210626_153441.jpg

Folding doen is also a bit awkward as you need to have the locking pin in lock position to fit the knob into the slots but you cant lock untill it is folded, which is hard enough to do without any bellows be even harder with the bellows on......unless Im missing something.

Don't trust every advertisement. Further, the Junior changed a bit over time, so there are (slightly) different models out there....
Sorry to say but yours is not made from Teak and doesn't have the extra brass reinforcements and is definitely not the tropical model....
....Further the one presented in your Spanish hyperlink is certainly not a Tropical model - I know the seller (I'm a collector of Sandersons) and the shield on the camera doesn't say its the Tropical model. Further the advertisement says it is made from 'Caoba'. which means Mahogany - which was too soft a wood for the tropics.

...they all have hinged backs; its not typical for a Tropical...

.....and you don't have to feel offended because of my responses....

I cant find any reference to a Junior having a hinge back.
Im not offended, but still can't understand why you insist it is a Junior. Wouldn't it be a fully spect Regular as it has the same features.
Interestingly my Victo Superbe seems to be teak both in colour and weight. Haughton might not of been as cheap as Sanderson.
Model number is 11.880 which puts it around 1906.
Ordering some bellows and will put on a 4x5 sprung back I have lying around. Will make a great light compact field camera.

Sure could be a Regular too...only very small differences between the later junior and regular

About 1904 Sanderson changed over to bellows with chamfered sides....something to consider when ordering new bellows.
I'm just having some made for my whole plate A-pattern, albeit the older square type bellows, since my camera is from 1902

Good to know perhaps that both camera lines - Victo and Sanderson - at that time came from the Houghton house....they are in my view a better built than most other makes. The Victo line of camera's is said to be intended to compete with the then popular Thornton Pickard camera's. Victo had one Tropical model, called - on its brass makers plate - the Tropical Victo. Are quite rare; would be great if you have one...
I'm quite familiar with Teak, since most of my collection is build around teak 'tropical' camera's and currently I'm not only restoring camera's but I'm building one myself from teak

Made a new film back to take 4x5 film out of some Silky Oak I have lying around.
Just need to give a final sand and a good shellacing on exposed parts and matt black on the other bits.

Now onto the front, I have some pieces of mahogany veneer on thin ply I have left over from some speakers I made awhile back. Also some plate copper for the rise and fall.

Interesting I find that instead of two sprocket wheel the whole focusing axle is geared. Also a helical gearing is employed.

Dont mention Tropical please Ron will get all worked up. I only put a question mark after Regular cause Ron wont admit he is wrong on it being a Junior.

Thanks mate I'll forgive you being first day on the job and all....you probably already have had to deal with 6 PM's from AgX.

The reference to Tropical was left in because otherwise anyone reading the thread for the first time would have otherwise thought something like:
"Bloody Hell, why is there all this talk about "Tropical" in this thread?" :D
And PS - it is Matt, not Mark :whistling::D
