1. I am ignorant of all but "The Biggest" names in photography, so Thank You for posting about Earl Leaf.
2. Wow...The SF Gate. I remember when it was a weekly paper (made of real paper) going toe-to-toe against The Bay Guardian.
3. It is always very inspiring to see Iconic Photos like these, and be reminded of the rather "low tech" and mundane equipment that produced them.

I saw this too. At least your post got some action. He was a wonderful photographer.

I think talking about photos and photographers is a very distant second place on APUG, which is such a shame. If I would have seen your thread first I would have commented on it

What is "Beatnik" referring to in this very case? His subjects are non-Beatnik celebreties.
Is he himself called Beatnik, and if so, why?

He did great work...what is wonderful is the access that many celebs gave in those days, allowing photographers to shoot
them at their homes...it was a pretty rare occasion when I assisted some of the good photographers in NY...it was always
on a location or in a studio...it lost much of it's intimacy and subjects were never as relaxed as when we shot them
in their home. It would've been great to have worked in those days...the fashions, cars, everything was just cooler then.
