Samy's Camera in San Francisco Permanently Closed

Samy’s Camera locations have mostly been in buildings that were convenient enough for professionals to get to (or send their assistants to) and offer enough space and cheap enough rent. The main store in Los Angeles has moved 3 times since I started buying from them in 1976. There has been one that moved at least once in Santa Barbara (because of Brooks Institute and maybe UCSB), one in West Los Angeles, one in Pasadena (because of Art Center— I believe that one is still open) and the San Francisco store. There is another Westside shop, but that is a warehouse and rentals only.

Their website shows they have a store in Pasadena and Santa Ana, as well as the central LA location.

I've never visited the Pasadena location, I should since I am occasionally there.

I used to go the the SF store. It was pretty sparse anyway, and I think there never was the market in SF that there would be in LA. Sale of new cameras and accessories is almost all online now, like everything else, so I think it was optimistic to think they could sell much there. And SF doesn't have the level of ad and other photo work going on to support rentals that much either.
