We all know what cameras he uses but I was just wondering do you know what film, developer, paper etc. have Sebastiao Salgado used in his work? I freaked out completely when I saw the book "Workers". The tones are just superb and the grain...oh man, sooooooo beautiful and sharp grain! I remember reading somewhere that Salgado used blue filter in his portraits, ...true?

I'm pretty sure he used tri-x 35mm earlier in his career and now shoots tri-x in 120. Don't know about the developer and paper. His darkroom work is done by a very talented guy named Philippe Bachelier http://www.philippebachelier.com/.

The number one tool Salgado uses is his heart. The emotional content of his photographs guides him in picking the correct gear, paper, chemicals, film to convey his message. It is my opinion that without his intellectual strength to follow his heart, his photographs would not have the power they have. Without that strength, all the Leicas, paper, chemistry and film would be wasted.

Thanks, I should have searched before posting the question... I found what I was looking for

Just out of interest. Salgado was awarded a titanium M7 bearing serial number 3,000,000 by Leica Camera in Germany to honour him for his extensive humanitarian photographic work. Recently he put the camera up for auction in Vienna to raise funds for a tree planting project in the Brazilian rainforest.

Says something about the man's dedication and integrity to his cause.

The camera sold for 90,000 euros setting a new record for a modern camera price.

For so far that i know Salgado works with Leica M serie and the R6.2
I have very nice reportage about him on VHS

I believe, from reading elsewhere, that his printer develops his negs in Calbe A49 and that he uses Tri-X pro, the 320ASA version.
