I have an old fridge in my darkroom, filled with film, paper, soda, beer, and cold cuts. Real food goes in the one in the kitchen. Some years ago I replaced the bulb with a small safelight bulb. Has anyone else done this?

No room for a fridge in my bathroom.

I thought that beverages in the darkroom were an absolutely no-no, yet secretly I've been doing this. A pot of strong tea to kick off a printing session, some red wine sometimes during a film dev session. I've found that wine and printing doesn't give good results.

I think you should talk to Andy K (if my memory serves me right!)

I've only wrecked one print, forgetting it was in the developer while I grabbed a brew!

Beer is not real food??? As a grade-school student, I distincly remember the food pyramid with the four (five?) basic food groups. I could swear that beer was on that chart!

Real food - food that requires skill in preparation - see also 'real photography'

So beer is only real food if you make your own.

(This should be fun)

Hmmm...so an apple is not real food; but apple cobbler is?

In my case, yes. I can't eat raw apples, only cooked. I'm allergic to something in many fruits that breaks down under heat. Which is frustrating because I really like apples.

If you keep the keg in the refrigerator and run the tap outside, you don't have to worry about the safelight.

Reminds me of the guy that taped rubylith film over his tv screen so he could watch tv shows while printing large runs

Hi !
Why not just removing the bulb ? My fridge is not deep enough to need ligh to differentiate a paper box from a can of beer ... And if I can't dinstinguish between the two I'd better not drink what I pull out ;-)

The fridge door opens on the side away from the safelights, so without the light I can't distinguish between beer and soda.

Sounds like a damn good reason for not having soda in your fridge...! :D
