Sandy and I were so busy working together, I forgot to pass on your message. We did have a wonderful time together both in the lab and at meals.

We made several sheets of coatings together, and Sandy made several prints using carbon tissue that we coated with the blades.

It's difficult for me to tell. It looks like you got some reversal in the lighter area running down the can.

I tried a few more this past week and didn't get anything. I exposed at ISO 25 instead of 50 like before. Ran out of film and the new film will be here monday to try some more.

Update

I've tried a couple more shots in the last few weeks and have concluded that separating the packet at 10-15 seconds and flashing at about 20 seconds produces more effect than separating and flashing earlier. At least that is the way my setup is working. When I separate and flash earlier, about the only reversal I am getting is in the black background.

The Sabattier effect works best when using a partly exhausted developer or one formulated specifically for the purpose. Typical formulas use Metol as the only developing agent. There is one commercial developer called Solarol. Adorama stocks it.

Thanks for the tip Gerald. I believe you are talking about print solarizing, and, yes, it does require a metol base developer. We were discussing solarizing the negative from type 55 film.

I will say, in my experience solarizing prints and type 55 negs, there is a lot more control available with doing it to prints.
