Is it possible to calibrate the printer using a color reflection densitometer to check the result and using some form of profile editing software to edit the ICC profile for the printer?

I used a reflection densitometer (X-rite 400) when I was making platinum prints from digital negatives. I imagine that you could employ a similar procedure should you wish to abuse the readily available paper profiles and settings that come with matched combinations of papers and inks.
