RZ67 Mirror stuck. Won't cock. Seller scammed me.

Yeah as I stated already, the body is unable to cock properly which is why, despite pushing down the lever before mounting the lens, the lens is jammed. Seems like people putting a lens on an uncocked body would be an easy mistake to make? Do people have to get it repaired every time that happens?

Things aren't looking too good for me. The paypal dispute got escalated and they sided with the seller on the basis that he had listed the camera as 'used' but had written that he hadn't tested it in the description. I know that's a load of bollocks as I've got his forum post to prove it. I've emailed paypal again with all the information in hope that they'll take a closer look at the case. Seems like a rush decision was made as it was closed within an hour of it being escalated! Repair centre quoted me £120+VAT just to remove the lens as they have to go through the body. £285+VAT to remove the lens and get the body working again. I only bought the body for £180 so I'm feeling pretty deflated. Anyone have a mamiya repair guide or know where to get one?

On the RBs its an easy fix to get a lens off. There is a hole at the top right corner of the front standard where you can insert a paper clip to push a lever that unlocks the lens. Ive never done it on an RZ though.

Let me see if I can find the photo of what Im talking about n post it here for you....

as you turn the lock ring, push the lever and wiggle the lens off.

look in this general area to find the hole? maybe an insignia cam be removed n the hole is under it?

maybe the plastic corner piece can be removed?

im sure a few other people here have a few remedies that worked for them. just be patient n dont force anything!

While you can still see the eBay listing PRINT IT along with the pages where he posted the problem, before any of it is removed or edited.

Then contact eBay and PayPal and explain what's happened. Given that he has posted this problem online I doubt they will side with him. At this point, I would t bother contacting the seller.

He can't say the camera was untested in his Ebay listing, his photo.net post shows clearly he had tried to use it and found the fault so was clearly selling it because of it. That's fraud.

I think eBay will be more helpful. It's clearly not as described, and there is proof it was sold because of the fault. It stated he himself had recently purchased it - if that was via eBay then eBay would be able to see that.

It cannot be user (buyer) error, it was listed as working therefore why wouldn't you put a lens on it.

For starters, dispute the charge on your credit card and get that charged back to paypal.

Secondly, here's some RZ67 repair guides, not sure if they are useful or not:

Normally the lenses are always cocked, it's difficult to uncock/fire them if not on the camera. If you can see through the lens (shutter), it's cocked.

I don't think you can even mount an uncocked lens on the body, the holes/pins won't line up between lens and body.

The good thing is, no listings can be edited in any way after it ends.

So in my frustration I decided to do some major camera surgery. Finally managed to get the bellows off and was able to release the lens!

Now I just need to get paypal to allow me to return the damn thing or work out how to fix the cocking mechanism. Wish me luck!

OH MY. I spent ages on the internet looking for an RZ67 repair guide! Could have done with this a few hours ago when trying to tear the thing apart! I might actually have a chance now! Thank you so much!

unfortunately
you took it apart and now the seller can say YOU damaged it.
so now you are screwed for the total amount of the camera ... broken.

you should have forwarded the post from Pnet to paypal along with the seller's page
to show it wasn't as described/broken, then you would have been able to return it
after the seller returned all your $$ + return shipping + a camera repair guy to remove your lens.

sorry to see and hear and read about all your troubles.

Paypal have already cancelled my claim. This is what they said about it. "After careful consideration, we're unable to decide this claim in your favour at this time.

The listing accurately described the item you received."

Yes, this was after I stated the mechanical fault and posted a link to the sellers forum post about it being broken.

I am no expert about the law in the U.K. on what constitutes "merchandisable quality" but I'd have thought that you might be able to launch a claim in the "small claims" court against the seller who presumably now has your money via PayPal

If you win that claim and the seller does not comply with the court judgement to pay then you can get a High Court writ which the "Sheriffs" will enforce.

Might be worth checking out. If the seller is based outside England and Wales then all might be lost

Seller is in the UK. I've emailed paypal but I'm not all that hopeful that they'll reconsider which I find absurd given the evidence. The cameras all back together now as I received it so hopefully they'll allow me to do a simple return.

OMG! that was a bit drastic to get a lens off. All you had to do was access the little locking lever from the front, not dismantle a bomb. hahahaha you are a brave fellow.

Well good luck.

No little locking lever or paper clip hole on the RZ. Only way to remove it was through the bellows! I was quoted £120+VAT by the repair shop for just the lens removal.

for what it's worth, never buy anything a seller says they cannot test. That's a nice way of saying it's probably broken. Those are the items you better get dirt cheap if you do buy. Not sure what the value is of an RZ, but that's my take on stuff that is sold as untested.

And also, just so you know, at least in the states, even if it's not broken you can return anything you buy with PayPal even for simply getting "cold feet" and changing your mind after it was delivered.
