I'm not sure if this is really the right place to post this, but it's a kind of repair, albeit not a very important one...

There's an O-ring on the screw-in center column hook of my Gitzo 1227MKII tripod, and it was pretty badly cracked due to age. McMaster-Carr in the US offers two options for replacement:

1-1/16" ID, 1-5/16" OD (1/8" cross-section width), p/n 9452K35, USD 8.71 for 100 pieces

27mm ID, 33mm OD (3mm cross-section width), p/n 9262K277, USD 11.25 for 50 pieces

The metric part is more technically correct but is more expensive here in the US, so I added a bag of the 9452K35 to my last McMaster order. It seems to be a perfect fit, and I still have 99 O-rings left for all my home projects.

I don't know what other Gitzo models or other brand tripods this will fit, but if you're in the US and want an O-ring drop me a PM and we'll figure something out. Postage should be pretty minimal.

Kind of annoying isn't it? For one piece we both have some extra small bags of "stuff" in the misc. drawer.

Harbor Freight sells both SAE and Metric 0 rings of good quality, in several boxes of assorted sizes, which I have found very helpful, including for putting smaller diameter batteries onto cameras, etc.

These kits are no expensive.

Get a 20% off coupon from weekly flyers in the weekly mailers, Popular Mechanics, or online, either printed or copied onto phones or pads; HF will take the electronic copies, no worries.

I will also mention that prints can be cut by very sharp razors, for resizing, etc and be rejoined with super glued such as the Loctite high strength Red 'thread lock'.

Many items at these stores have become very good quality, and are improving all the time, so if you think HF is just junk, you should think again and make a visit.

Their hand tools have lifetime replacement, like Sears Craftsman Line did for many years.

No, I do no work for HF.

Cheers.
