That's funny Raphael - I showed that youtube clip to my students just before the holidays!

I'm hoping to go out with the camera this weekend, or possibly Monday, which is Dead Link Removed in Japan, and all the newly minted 20-year olds in current kimono fashion will be out in force. Should make for some interesting photos.

And a self portrait in kimono as well?

Already got one (although it's not really a self-portrait):

 Wow, Stunning ! Glad to link a face with a name, although I probably couldn't recognize you IRL, without the traditional make-up

Thanks for the link about the Coming-Of-Age day, very interesting, I didn't know it. A lot of shooting opportunities, for sure.

BTW, during holidays, I saw a warning sign in the french Post Office, telling that shipping of dangerous material by Post is prohibited, and this is including Lithium and NiCd battery in electronic appliance.

I remember you had the same problem with the Japan Post, while shipping the Round 9 Camera, because of the lithium battery, I hope you will not get it again. What type of battery is in the Pentax ???

Best regards,

Raphael

We've got that samurai smartphone parade going full time here in California. The other day I saw a girl ride her bike right into some bushes while looking into her smart phone. Then she angrily got up, yanked the bicycle out of the bushes, and started kicking it! If I hadn't been worried that she hurt herself I would have laughed out loud... as it was I she was lucky to avoid being seriously injured.

I got asked that when I posted it too, and just said that it was a regular alkaline (whether it was or not). They only care about huge Lithium batteries, like the ones in Sony laptops that explode...

Yeah, the last problem I had was that Japan Post will not ship anything with a battery, no matter what kind. At least, that was the case a couple years ago. Maybe they've relaxed somewhat. I'll have to go and ask them before I seal the box for shipping, and in a worse case scenario means the camera will ship without a battery. I'll keep everyone informed.

Before you remove the batteries, might that not mess up the film counter or anything? Or starting a rewind when inserted again?

That is not addressed in the manual, but if memory serves me it shouldn't affect the exposure count. I believe there's a memory chip that is self powered and holds info in the event of battery exhaustion. I wouldn't worry too much about shipping with the battery installed unless they return it to you because of it.

It should be o.k. I took the battery out when I had it.

I was going to replace it as I thought the camera was showing a low battery warning. I took it out and measured it but found the voltage was fine. When I put it back in, I looked at the LCD a bit closer and realised that what I thought was a low battery warning was something else!

That is exactly what happened last time. I took the batteries out of the camera (but kept them in the package) and it was returned to me. No batteries whatsoever. Like I said, I'll try to figure out what the current situation is with Japan Post.

Thanks everyone, for your polite concern.

I think about the camera every day as it sits on the desk beside me, have taken one photo already, but I'm in the middle of grading hell (grades are due tomorrow night at midnight) so even if the shots were finished I'd still have to wait to get to the post office. This weekend (I hope) should probably work.

Guess I should get back to my compare and contrast essays and stop wasting time on APUG...:munch:

Yes, but that will be Friday in Japan, so my favourite way to procrastinate won't be an issue by then (although I still will have a lot of work to do for other projects).

Take your time. I don't mind waiting until spring to get my turn. Really. It's cold and wet out there just now. I hate even having to go out to get the mail..

So...who's next? Fred? Or were you just saying "my turn" in general? I've tried to look back at the old pages but the new upgrade won't let me...just another bug to fix. Anyway, once I have the address I can have the box (with camera of course) in the mail.

So am I right in thinking the camera hasn't moved past the first three names on the list after over a year?

This is fun, no?
Hmmm, no, it's a little exagerated :whistling:
We have moved past the sixth stage :

1. Sile - Ire
2. Steve Smith - Eng
3. TheToadMen - Nl
4. Raphael - Fr
5. Andrew.Roos - S Afr
6. Dr Croubie - Aus
^
| Camera is here (or we think so )

7. Mooseontheloose - Japan
8. Walburgh - Man Can - SEE BELOW
9. Matt King - WaUSA
10. Flatulent 1 - Wa USA
11. John_Nikon_F - Wa USA
12. K Jupiter - Cal USA
13. Ned L - Cal USA
14. Toro Mike - Colo USA
15. A M Baker - MO USA
16. MALongmore - NY USA
17. Newt_on_Swings - NY USA
18. Shawn Rahman - NY USA

So, we have done one half of the globe with the camera, there is just the other half to do...

Except it should be "walbergb" = Bob Walberg in Manitoba.

Woo-hoo- finally got to log in to the site. Rachelle, Walburgb is indeed next on the list.
Hey, where'd the PM link go? I can't seem to navigate the new site yet.

Hi Rick,

PM are now "conversations", in the menu you get when moving the mouse cursor upon you Login name on upper-right. You can read (maybe you probably already do it) the Getting Started Tutorial of Sean here : (there was a url link here which no longer exists)
