@Andrew : Wonderful ! :w00t: Interesting report, also !

@ Rachel,
I promise to talk like a pirate to all of the flight attendants on my Turkish Airlines flight!

Will you make a video, please ? I think we want all see this :D

BTW, Thanks to cdholden for reminding the ITLAPD to me, I would have forgotten... Avaaaaaaast !!!!

Just as a heads up (because I think the camera may be coming my way next, if and when it reaches S.Africa) - I will be travelling during the months of August and September, getting back to Japan on Sept 19th. So...I guess we'll have to see where and when the camera ends up, but if it looks like it can't get to me by the end of July, then we may have to figure out different options.

As you had seen, there is actually Dr Croubie before you, so, it let a little less than two month to cover a lot of miles to Australia, let the Doctor does his shots, and then to Japan, so I think you should keep your place, don't we ? What is the other attendants opinion ? What MC Rick would do ?

I don't see a rush, howzabout a consensus from the group. Members of this group should feel free to chime in on this.

Yes, mooseontheloose should keep HER place. We'll reevaluate when it's ready to go to HER if things suddenly get fast, but really what are the odds??

I agree, what's the hurry? It's mid-July already, if it takes 2 months to make the South Africa to Australia to Japan journey... seems fine!
Dr. Croubie might want to hold off on posting it so that Moose is there when it arrives.... So he can make a REALLY BIG panorama.... Ayers Rock should be small in the frame but we expect good shadow detail....

If mooseontheloose is going to keep his place there will have to be a lot of changes.

Well, I didn't want to say anything to derail this thread...

Yes - I forgot that the good doctor was ahead of me so you're right, we probably have a little more leeway with the camera than I first thought.

Don't worry, No hurry! It's all about the fun.

And I would hate to have Moose cancel her trip to Europe for we'll probably be visiting some graveyards as an APUG happening around that time frame

Ah well... got busy and didn't edit my post in time (thanks for the PM Rick, but isn't this much more fun?!?!?). So, please accept my apology! I really must pay better attention or just stay away from APUG during work hours! As you were folks...

EDIT: I just edited my post. A little late, but again sorry!

No worries Mike! In any event, the quotes have kept the original text for all us to enjoy.

Thankyou posterity!

Hang on, wait, you're all encouraging me to be slow and forget about doing something for a few months? That's dangerous territory right there...

Meanwhile, what am I shooting again? Me? And a kangaroo? I only shoot kangaroos for dinner (well, technically I don't shoot them, but someone does, they're tasty either way...

Just a reminder for all who have yet to shoot, the "selfie" is not a blatant point the camera at yourself shot. Just try to figure a way to include yourself in part, or shadow, or reflection(in part) in one photo. I would include an example I have, but I'm not ripping a framed print apart to scan it. The "selfie" is a close up shot of the chrome front bumper and headlight of my pickup, when you look closely, my reflection is visible in the chrome bezel of the headlight, with an OM-1 for a face. I have other shots where I show up as a reflection in windows, a shadow in the fore ground, etc. Be creative with one.

I was aware of that, but I'm still not too happy with my "selfie". What happened is that I had a specific shot that I wanted (Isandlwana from the Colonial cemetery) and found that the zoom would not go wide enough to shoot it as the panorama, which is what I had originally intended. So I shot it full frame, but this required including myself. The sun was from the front right, so it wasn't going to be a shadow. So eventually I just plonked myself in the frame, using the self-timer with the camera on a tripod. I immediately regretted taking such a touristy image - clichéd, perhaps even disrespectful. So to make amends, I also shot the panorama there, from a point further out where the lens was wide enough to include the koppie (hill). Which then scuttled my original plan of shooting the second frame at Rorke's Drift...

I think it much harder to surreptitiously insert self on purpose, than on accident. I just remembered a shot that included me, here it is. Can you figure out where I am?

(there was a url link here which no longer exists)

Excellent spot Ned, actually my finger tripping the shutter. I mounted an 85mm lens from a 6x6 folder on my 4x5 and couldn't get a cable release on it mounted in a recessed board.

When I first started making prints again, there was an small dark area in one corner. I spent a lot of time looking at my negative carrier, the under-lens filter holder on my enlarger, the enlarger lens board, my homemade easel.... It was very mystifying because those things would make a lighter area not a darker one! So I started looking for light leaks or reflections. I probably wasted about two hours trying to figure out what was wrong with my enlarger setup.

It FINALLY occurred to me to actually look at the negative!! And remember putting my hand up to shield the lens from the sun.

One of my favorite things in life, when the light pops on over my head and "well-DUH" escapes my mouth. We all have those moments.
