Round 10--REALLY???

I'm next in line for the camera after Raphael. However, I'm concerned because the South African Post Office (SAPO) seems to be in disarray at present. A few weeks ago on 1 April, the national airline South African Airways announced that they were suspending international shipments for SAPO because of SAPO's failure to pay them.

I am very sorry to learn that, Andrew ! Given the links you sent, things about South African Post, aren't definitively settled, so maybe things will be better in a few weeks ? Of course, it should be decided with consensus, especially of the next applicants, but maybe I can wait this time before sending you the camera (once I get it) ?

I was eager to make this camera a big jump to Durban

The screen shot was copied on the original site, but wouldn't copy to here. It showed how long the package sat before clearing customs, when it was shipped (and paid for) expedited(less than one week)at a greater expense.

The good news is that the item I ordered from the US has finally arrived, 5 weeks after it was shipped by first class international mail. So it seems that the postal service is working, albeit slowly! I think other participants should comment on whether this sort of delay is acceptable. If not, then I completely understand and will sit out the round. If it is, then I thank you in advance for your patience!

I lived in East Africa in the 1980's and a camera would have been unlikely to get to me.

But if the camera has a decent chance of getting to you, I surely don't care about waiting 5 weeks. I think it would be cool to get one of these to all continents.

Maybe we can enlist Alex Gard to start off a camera in Antarctica....

I've been living at this address for six years and in that time I have purchased a number of items (books, DVDs etc) that have been shipped by postal service. None of them have gone missing. Most of my camera related purchases have been shipped by courier, although I did buy a lens on ebay a couple of months ago and it came by mail from Japan without problems. Since DVDs are probably of more interest to potential thieves than old film cameras, I think it's likely (90%) to reach me eventually.

A big parcel from Nerderlands ! And a lot of thing inside : a very nice logbook, a pen, and among other things, a nice Pentax camera, with index 7 displayed...

So, I got it, now, the problem was to decide what to shot

Hi all,

So what ?

I see the subject isn't rising too much passion and messages - probably, as someone wrote, it's Traveling Camera Fatigue, or TCF.

So, just to keep you informed and awoke (even with no-event ) I haven't taken my two shots yet, weather here has just changed from execrable to averagely acceptable. Went on site this noon with the Pentax, but no way, dull lighting and no obvious composing came up... Will try again the next week. Sorry to all.

I need to read further the logbook, I just saw Bert wrote a long (and illustrated) entry !

I should think also about something to wrote myself.

BTW, I wonder if we will see someday scans of Camera 9's logbook pages ? Is Shawn got it back with the Olympus ? I don't think we ever mentioned it since the camera return to NYC. I guess there is inside a lot of funny messages to share and enjoy.

So, everybody is OK for sending the Camera to Andrew in South Africa, as things seems to be resolving with the SAPO, as a next step ? I will PM Andrew, as soon as the camera will be ready.

Sorry to all. I am very contrite this morning over this. I indeed have the logbook and the autograph sheet from the round 9 cameras and will scan them as promised long ago. I have two remaining projects to close out the round, and this is one of them. Lots of creativity & generosity went into the writings, and they deserve to be shared. Will be back to you fine folks about this shortly.

So, to talk about Camera 10, whatever will be the result, I managed to take my #1 shot, and should take the second by the end of the week !
I have also to think about something witty to write in the logbook.

I was out shooting my Fuji GW690ii on Saturday, some dude with a little digisnapper kept trying to look over my shoulder to see my shots. When he thought he was being blocked, he stepped in front of me to block me from shooting, and kept glancing over his shoulder to see a reaction. I patiently waited till he gave up, then took my shot then turned to Karen and said(in a loud voice) look baby, I can chimp just like that asshole. He disappeared into the crowd with his head down. Karen laughed. I'm going to paste a photo of myself shooting the finger to the back of my camera, so when people ask to see my shot, they'll see!

When they came to see what I was doing I let them look at the glass, and they thought it was pretty neat and funny that the world was upside-down. Full circle I guess....
