I guess I've been a bit too preoccupied with what I've been doing to pay much attention to whats up. Where is the camera? Bert, did you send it to Raphael, and if so, did he get it yet? Inquiring minds want to know.

Forgot to post here, but it's on its way. Should arrive after this weekend? Don't know how fast the post goes.

This is my first time, so I just assumed that patient decorum was the order of the day...

Ignorance is bliss.

I think that this is the first time we have ever seen a reference to decorum amongst this group.

Since when? This is Apug, and especially this thread concerning the worlds biggest crap shoot. Feel free to keep the banter up, sacrifice a chicken or two. Call people out and tease them(not maliciously of course), have fun. Ya gotta do something to pass the time waiting.

Now you're talkin'! I'll pick up a roasting pig for the smoker this weekend. Most of my kids will be home to celebrate my birthday, they will love me even more than they already do. I'll make my son watch the piggy while my grand son and I go fishing(he ain't gonna like that!).

Thank you Bert, I'm 36(inverse) today. Kids are coming tomorrow. Thank you for the recipe, venison chili is a favorite around here, extra spicy(I never spare the jalapenos). Have 20 lbs of jumbo prawn for the boiler and a couple of cases of everyone's favorite brew. Let the games begin!

Jalapenos!? I'm growing some peppers here called Peruvian White Lightning that taste amazing and will wake you up compared to those sleepy ol' jalapeos! If it weren't tomorrow I'd offer to send you some! Sounds like a good time, Happy Birthday Rick. I'll guess Rick will see two more birthdays before he develops the film...
mmmm pulled pork.... now I'm thinking of getting out the BBQ here... maybe I'll BBQ some spareribs on WPPD this Sunday....

I smoked ribs last weekend, and roasted peppers on the fire, habaneros, jalapenos, Hungarians, cherry bombs, and poblanos.

Excellent! You're making me hungry, it's dinner time here! Those Peruvian peppers are a kind of marble-sized white habanero. Not extremely hot but they have a fantastic almost smoky flavor.. it's becoming one of my favorites. Every Spring I grow hundreds of vegetable starts for a plant sale that benefits the local Grange, and I especially like trying new kinds of peppers. If I think of it I'll make a pinhole of all the baby pepper plants and upload it here...

Hi Bert, hi all,

When have you posted it exactly ? Because I haven't received it yet

If it's more than a week ago, I become to be worried !

Best regards,

Hey, everyone's invited! Just show up and help yourselves to the food and beverages. Y'all can hang out while my grandson and I are off fishing(he's only 3, we won't be away long).

I tried to put some pork in the smoker some years ago, but the damn thing bit me and ran off. So now I stick to restaurants. Had the rack of lamb at the local Black Angus last week, certainly better than the cold wiener I had yesterday.

Postal Service Problems

I'm next in line for the camera after Raphael. However, I'm concerned because the South African Post Office (SAPO) seems to be in disarray at present. A few weeks ago on 1 April, the national airline South African Airways announced that they were suspending international shipments for SAPO because of SAPO's failure to pay them.

http://www.fin24.com/Tech/Companies/SAA-halts-SA-Post-Offices-global-service-20150401

(No, this was not an April Fool's joke even though it seems like one). This was apparently resolved when SAPO paid SAA a couple of days later. However a few days ago it was reported that SAPO's bank accounts had been attached for failure to a pay a USD $4M court judgment, apparently because they don't have the money to pay.

http://www.fin24.com/Tech/Companies/Post-Office-loses-bid-for-release-of-bank-accounts-20150424

I'm not sure if there will be any immediate effect on the postal service, but I can imagine SAA and other creditors being wary of offering credit to SAPO under these circumstances. On top of this, an item that I ordered from the USA which was shipped a month ago on 28 March has not yet arrived.

Under the circumstances, I am seriously concerned that the camera won't make it here at all, or will take an inordinately long time to do so. So unless there is some significant change for the better between now and when Raphael is ready to ship it, I think I should sit out this round. It pains me to do so, as I have been really looking forward to dazzling y'all with my artistry, but don't want to risk being responsible for the loss of the camera.

Sometimes it would be really nice to live somewhere where public services (the SAPO is a private company but is owned by the government) actually worked. Switzerland springs to mind

Sorry guys.

Andrew

Just copied this from another site--I'm not too worried about the Pentax reaching Raphael.

MADNESS IN FRANCE! Express Mail parcel held for almost 3 weeks in customs....
just had to put a shout-out to any of you potentially shipping into France(in my case, Nice) from the USA:

be ready(potentially) for your parcel to be held hostage for a while! I sent a package(Manfrotto geared head I sold via ebay) to the buyer in France.... well here's a screenshot for you to see of the USPS update email I just received:

absolute madness!

this was sent EXPRESS Mail, since Priority to France has given me fits many times before.... Bullpuckey....
I requested a refund from USPS, but they said that since it was "out of our hands"... I thought I(and the buyer) were paying for EXPEDITED services...

stupid VAT, stupid customs.... Just x-ray the parcel and be on your way and deliver the darned package!

sorry, had to get this off my chest

Thanks for the information, Rick !

However, it's not very clear without the screenshot, we still don't know what going on with customs !

But we are probably not concerned, since from Nederlands to France, no customs, nor VAT at all ! It's EU zone

And Bert (TheToadmen) answered privately that the camera probably left off on last Thursday, so I am no longer worried about it ! We are still in a "normal" delay for a shipping between EU countries. And Bert told me the 27th was a national holiday in Nederlands.

So, just a little more time wait needed

Best regards,

Raphael
