Hosting 192 family members and loosing a Mamiya 6? You can call that an issue. Not the worst there is, but still ...
Can I donate $5 to you? If some other APUGers (about 200) do as well, we can make a "get-Rick-another-Mamiya-6" fund (seriously).

BTW: I wasn't complaining, but just wondering if I missed something. Thats all.

Bert from Holland

Haha, thanks, really. You made my week better with that offer, but not needed. The person that absconded with my camera and meter will get their karmic justice, I need to just get on with my life and stewing over it any longer doesn't allow for that. Time to smile and shoot some film. I guess I'll be shooting more 35mm for a while, or start toting my Mamiya TLR's again.

Back from vacation. It was nice to be away from this lunacy! I logged onto APUG several times while away, but purposely stayed away from these threads.

Shots from Round 9 will be posted started this Friday evening.

Hope all are well

Regards,

Shawn

And I'll be away for a few days with Karen decompressing. Been a really screwy couple of weeks around here. Actually, it's been a really effed month. Started with me falling and destroying a couple of film holders and some negatives, followed by one of my daughters eloping (ya, wtf), then news from oldest daughter that she's getting a divorce (yes, there is a god), family reunion (and all the prep + cooking for nearly 200), the mysterious disappearance of the Mamiya, then last night someone broke into my truck and stole a few bucks in small change from the console and a tackle box off the back seat, sheesh! Oh yeah, now I get to have my rear window replaced on the truck.

Rick - take your time, please. None of what we do is more important than real life!

Sorry, people - don't send me hate mail for saying that. Coordinating & managing these projects are more difficult than it appears.

I've decided to upload the Round 9 pics in the Traveling Camera Project gallery (where it belongs). We did this last in Round 6.

For Round 8, we uploaded pics in the thread itself, but the gallery seems to get more views and comments.

Which brings up Round 7: Can we beat that old horse again? Does anyone have any idea or suspicion where the cameras are? In my post-Round 9 retirement, I am prepared to scour the earth for them, if there is just a glimmer of hope. Anyone?

Regards,

Shawn

I'm new to this but was wondering why round 6 was the last in the gallery. Makes sense now!

Definitely real life first, come back when this will be fun like it should be.

First pictures from Round 9 are in the gallery.

Here: (there was a url link here which no longer exists)

If you participated in Round 9, please read my last few posts in that thread, and most importantly, go to the gallery to identify & discuss your frames. Comments are open to everyone, of course!

If any of the Round 10 participants want inspiration and to see what is possible, the 29 frames from the Olympus for Round 9 are up in the gallery. Here: (there was a url link here which no longer exists)

Seems the Olympus shooters ROCKED Round 9. The Leica's results will be up soon.

Shawn

Okay people, I'm awaiting some last minute info from a couple of people. I have decided that 18 people will shoot the Pentax, I am abstaining this round and will only function as host/mediator. I felt kinda bad that a couple of nuts wanted in and didn't make it. We did suffer our first drop out already, so I am adding a couple of would-be bench warmers. Some lucky(ha) fellows from the dark continent and the sub-continent will have a shot(or two) this round.

As a recently substituted bench warmer from the dark continent, I'm thrilled to join the ride.
Thanks so much for your generosity, Rick.

Welcome,
And if you can speak Afrikaans, I speak Dutch
I met someone from South Africa once (in Scotland) and we could understand each other very well.

Whereas a native born Scot speaking English would most likely have been essentially unintelligible? :munch:

Is that also the case for a "United Kingdom"?

Well, then it gets even more confusing, because an Independent Scotland could still retain Queen Liz as monarch of the Scottish Throne, this vote is about independence not republic.

So there'd be the rest of the United Kingdom (rUK) or my preference of former United Kingdom (fUK) of England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and then there'd be the new Kingdom of Scotland next door. And both would be (technically, not practically) ruled by Queen Liz and then King Charles after her (although why you'd want to be ruled by a spaniel is anyone's guess). So maybe it'll be the Disunited Kingdom, or even still be the United Kingdom (because it's the same ruler), with Disunited Countries?

England, Wales, and Scotland still and will always be on the island of Great Britan.

Meanwhile, the so-called "Bert from Holland" just said in another thread he's from Apeldoorn, which isn't even in Holland, just like Glasgow isn't in England (although I suppose 'from' could mean he was born there). Man, geography gets confusing when common-names get thrown around and accepted in use for places that they don't really belong to.

Why not simply: United Kingdoms?

We're not so fussy about that overhere. "The Netherlands" and "Holland" are internationally the same. But you're right: in truth "Holland" is one of the provinces in The Netherlands and yes: I did live there (as did my ancestors), before I moved to the beautiful provence of "Gelderland", which is even a beter part of our kingdom (also the area of Operation Market Garden).

Yeah, it depends who you talk to. I've found the dutch are so easy-going that they'll even call themselves 'Holland' to make themselves understood to others, although some of my relatives didn't like it when I said Holland and tried to lecture me about it. My dad is from Noordwijk-Binnen (Zuid Holland), I lived there and Voorhout and Den Haag for about a year each 2009-2011, so half my ancestors are all from Holland. (My uncle even traced our name back to a castle outside Rijswijk a few hundred years ago, everyone since have only moved around within 50km, can't get much more from 'from Holland' than that).
And my mum's dad was born in Berwick-on-Tweed, technically England but his parents were from Edinburgh, my grandma was from Newcastle but also traced mostly to Scotland. So I always tell people that I'm half dutch, half scottish, and all australian.

Meanwhile, I think what would happen when Scots vote yes is that the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (current) would be split into the United Kingdom of England, Wales, and Northern Ireland and the separate Kingdom of Scotland.
The same ruler (James I of England, James VI of Scotland) ruled both before the Act of Union brought Scotland into being the same Sovereign State, so technically all they need to do is undo the Act of Union to become two sovereign states with two crowns again. And maybe change the Union Jack to get rid of the Scottish blue and put some green or a lion or something, to give Wales some recognition that it also exists too, that would be nice.

Meanwhile, this is a camera forum? Who'da thunkit? Love that shot, very watercolour, almost Monet-esque?

Always nice to know where you're from, isn't it? When you'll ever visit your ancestral "lowlands" again, let me kow.

Oh, but this is all camera related: this way you'll know upfront where I'll be shooting the Rick-A-Cam (a.k.a. Pentax, loaded with Legacy Pro 100) for this Round 10 :whistling: (and thanks for the compliments)

Andrew - very excited to have someone from Africa participating. I would just love it if we could reach all the continents with one camera in a future round.

Shawn
