I recently obtained a very nice Rolleiflex 3.5 (S/N 2827435). It is excellent condition with the single exception that the waist level finder magnifier will not stay locked in any position. It swings freely and that makes focusing and composing a bit of a problem sometimes. Does anyone have a photo or diagram of the focusing magnifier or other information that would give me some idea of how it was made and how to repair it.

Thanks

Dennis

I don't know the specifics of that design, but most Rolleiflex focus hoods have a visible logic if you play with them enough. I have a T hood where the magnifier appears to rotate and push out spring metal. There is a cam action of some sort that makes the magnifier pop into the closed or open position. I assume that this will be shaped on the clamp springs and the axle. I don't know if the F hood will be closer to the Rolleiflex MX in needing a pull up to release because of the drop-down focusing mirror element.

The magnifier stays open because of two tiny bits of metal sheet:

I looked at my 3,5F / model 3, serial number 2.283.653 (a late model 3 around 1964). Should be identical to yours.

Thank you, that is precisely what I wanted. My magnifier is missing that small piece, it has fallen off at some point in time. I will need to find a replacement magnifier bracket or some type of repair will have to be made to the bracket.
