You shouldn't have to justify promoting analog photography anywhere on the net. Facebook is Facebook; if you don't like it, don't go. But there are a lot of great photographers out there, and surprising as it seems, many of them have never heard of APUG. Meet them, greet them, and by all means invite them. There's more than enough room here for them. But please don't denigrate them.

I will not join facebook because I refuse to support Mark Zuckerberg; a number one jerk in my opinion. I suppose some folks would say, too bad it is your loss.

I would give up my facebook account AND all of my 11 Rolleis if I could make this happen like I want to to happen: traveling for the next 5-10 years first across the country and then the globe, meeting real people and photographing them, teaching and lecturing for free about the art of traditional photography.... Let's take the conversation in that direction eh?

I'll definitely spread the word about APUG through our group - I don't see them as being in any way in competition. I don't think I can find the same amount of in-depth information on FB as I can here, but whenever I, or anyone in the Rollei group on FB does ask a question - 99% of the time there are one or two people (out of the 2100+) who do seem to come up with a clear and reasonable answer. Plus there are a lot of extremely active groups on there that are just fun as heck to browse - some I can not understand a word in, but the images are great! And all film. Chime in there with English and someone will answer....

I have a Facebook page, and I think these tech types are the No. 1. threat to our personal privacy and possibly our national security. I now do as little as possible on Facebook -- the leading company when it comes to intruding into our lives.I will never support TED conferences and bad mouth them as often as possible.

Apologizing for resurrecting this thread, but it's just amazing how wise, ahead of the time, and correct many of the members here are.

Wow some great comments in this thread - all I can echo is that Facebook is fine as long as it's used how you think best. Certainly the largest active area for social groups online outside of Instagram and that's saying something. Plenty of meetups and groups that work well on the platform.

My 2cents = be an active participant of any group you're passionate about and find like minded rollei or camera X folks who you can talk and shoot with.

We live in amazingly connected times globally and there is no one size fits all solution so keep looking for the right sets of folks to connect with
