I'm new to APUG, but I know some of the members here from Pure Silver, and Rollie List and Rollei Users. I've posted this on those lists and I think I'll open this up a little further to APUG members.

Here is an invitation to bring your Rolleiflex to New Bedford, Massachusetts, on Saturday, June 19th, and have lunch at Antonio's famous Portuguese restaurant and then take a photographer's walk through historic downtown, and the waterfront. If we get enough willing photographers, who can commit to produce one or two prints apiece, we can follow up this meeting with a gallery exhibition - details in the making.

12:00 noon at EM Letterpress, 419 Sawyer Street, 3rd Floor, for a visit and demonstration of a working letterpress operation.

1:00 lunch at Antonio's Portuguese restaurant on 267 Coggeshall Street

Then to the downtown, and waterfront to walk off lunch and make some exposures.

Weather permitting (pouring rain being the only foreseeable reason for cancellation)

Please contact me off list elroustom(at)gmail.com with New Beford Walk-About in the subject if you are interested.

Oh shoot! I knew I was forgetting something... Well if I get enough interest in another date, I'm flexible. I live and work here, so just about any Saturday works for me (sort of).

Rolleiflex & etc.

I would really like to join this outing; the 19th would be O.K. The 26th might have me visiting Whitey at another venue!

Hello Elias and welcome to APUG. I am out almost at the other end of the state with no Rollie, just a couple of Fuji MF-RFs (and bigger cameras! :D ). How about you trying to make Whitey's gathering to meet a few of us NE-APUGERs.

I would very much like to meet at Whitey's gathering. I'll RSVP soon.

I think it's great that PHSNE is planning a New B outing. Anybody in that group who is planning to shoot on that day with the aim of making a couple (or more) prints, maybe we can coordinate, and expand my exhibit idea (which is still forming).

Since you'll in the historic part of town, consider No Problemo's for lunch (William X Purchase, one block uphill from the visitor parking).

This sounds like an interesting outing, and I really like the idea of a subsequent exhibition. If it comes off, please make sure you post the images on-line.

Only two problems prevent my participation:

1. I live in Australia
2. I couldn't bring a 'flex, only a 'cord.

Best of luck.

Regards

I can't make that date, but I can totally recommend NB as a great locale full of photographic possibilities. If another date comes up I'll try to make it.

Maybe I can go out on the West coast synchronically. Portland OR was named after Portland Maine rather than Boston MA after a coin toss.

That's very kind of you to say Sanders. At the very least I own some pretty cool old printing presses that I like to show to visitors - so the tour will start there. If I manage it, I'll have something on press for the occasion.

You come too Sanders.

A mirror effort on your part Dennis would be fun. We'll have to calculate time difference, sun angles, West Coast equivalent to Portuguese food, etc. And I think you'll have to make your prints backwards.

I do make my prints backwards. Fortunately I make my negatives backwards too. And you know the old adage, two backwards make a forwards.
Portuguese food, hmmm. I can do a glass of port.

OK. Mother says that father should do this for Father's Day fun. Since I always take my wife's advice, I'll be there - Rollei in hand.

Great! A lot of maybes, but if some come through, we might make a crowd.
I'll compile a list, and get everyone's emails together next week to coordinate.

Hey I noticed Sandra Bulluck (sp?) holding a twin lens....and it wasn't in some movie. Good for her.... Ok...question: is this happening on the 19th or (Father's day) the 20th? Sorry but it was unclear from the father's day comments.

On the 19th. Saturday. I just got word from the gallery owner downtown that she is very interested in a show of the results. How many here think they'd like to shoot for the purpose of printing and exhibiting?

I will make every effort to attend in New Bedford. I just bought a Rollei E2 and had it rebuilt so I am eager to use it. I'm not a Letterpress printer but I have taken a couple of workshops taught by Kelly McMahon at John Barrett's "Letterpress Things" in Chicopee, Mass. which is near to where I live. kelly is a very good teacher and John is a great resource for letterpress printers from all over and is always willing to help novices and experts alike. He's also a moving force (no pun intended) at the Museum of Printing in Andover, Mass. which I've heard is well worth a visit--especially if you have an interest in the history of printing and photographing fine old presses.

I always shoot for the purpose of exhibiting. Rarely achieve that level, but I always try, or sometimes. In other words, yes. Come on, everybody.

I, too, always shoot for exhibit. I, too, have trouble making that standard with any regularity. I will gladly give the show my best shot or two and we'll see. Should be fun anyway.

As a relatively new photo enthusiast I never think in terms of exhibiting what I shoot. Despite this I have submitted a couple of things for group shows and had them accepted. So there are at least two questions that come to mind: What do you do differently when shooting for exhibition? and, In what form do you give them your best shots? Jpeg? Small silver print? Full-size inkjet print? Other?

Cheers,

Rudy
