I've been always worried about an open ended clip with these type of clips.

Hello, I was wondering if anyboy has a clue on where to find adapters to attach a strap to a rollei, I've seen on ebay some folks that sell strap with adapters that looks new, I wonder where they get them from.....anyone?

here's an exemple:

http://www.amazon.com/Brown-Leather-shoulder-Rolleiflex-camera/dp/B00L7HE56A

The adapters here looks new, there must be someone that still produce them right?

Hmmm. They could be putting new leather onto old sets of clips. There's a ready market for them. If you cruise around auction sites you can usually find someone selling an old strap, sometimes with a camera attached but not always.

Tell the truth, I don't like that sort of strap -- too narrow for the weights of that camera -- it digs into your shoulder. I have one but never use it.

I bought a wider new padded strap that has loops on the end that you can simply feed through the latch on the camera and loop it over the strap, thus giving you positive security at a vastly lower price, and a lot more comfort. Historical accuracy is all well and good, but comfort is important too.

I just dealt with this issue...it's not easy to replace the new strap with the old hardware...I recommend
getting a Domke "Gripper" camera strap and looping it through the side slots. It is a much better and
more comfortable modern strap. Hsas been working like a charm for months. (My camera is a
Rolleiflex 2.8C).

So those adapters that I ponted are not exactly like the originals? I don't get it.

There were a few different styles, but yes, they appear to be the original style...but the strap is very narrow, around a 1/2 inch, and it's not very comfortable to sling over the shoulder...the original strap/clasp combo are riveted together and changing the leather on them is a pain in the butt!

Here is the one I use...cheap and they last a long time, have them on my Canons and Leica.

this is what I get...

http://www.freestylephoto.biz/15020012-Optech-Pro-Loop-Strap-Red

it has loops that you feed through the clip on the side of the camera. The two ends of the strap unclip, so it is easy to feed the ends through the loop after it is inserted through the clip, thus making a secure tie-on. The strap pad is then clipped into the ends, and away you go.

The loops look to be extremely rugged, no danger of breaking or wearing through in the short-term, but I'd check them every few years.

I have tried a few Rolleiflex strap options in recent years, with differing degrees of success. I had the original factory clips riveted into a new strap by a local leather shop for the same price as a belt, it works well on my 'E' but sadly would not fit on my 'C'. I learnt of the different strap connector sizes and styles the hard way. I found that barton1972 straps do a dedicated Rolleiflex leather twin thin prong kind of thing as an option which totally rocks but my local stockist didn't have one. He did have another strap by that same company which is a kind of blue suede and super, super thin at the ends. Maybe 2mm tapering up to 5mm and then into a full width strap. With extreme care I was able to thread this perfectly onto the camera and the weight hangs across the full thickness of the strap, plus it looks pretty cool.

Others have reported a simple but sure success route using the Optech straps with the thin nylon string hoops. I had one of those on an F5 years back and from what i recall, I'm sure that would work also. I know that none of the above answers your question exactly but was just hoping to help share ideas. A Rolleiflex is so much better when you have the strap situation sorted out properly! Don't be tempted to jury rig it by forcing metal keyring hoops through the holes and attaching regular camera straps, it basically works but looks terrible and is bad for the camera.

I have two modern straps with modern recreations of the old gator-style clips that I use on my 2.8E and my Tele. The ones I have are Chinese made, about 1" wide, with a rubber gripper pad roughly in the middle of the strap. They're heavy-duty cotton webbing, and while they could be prettier, for the money they're fantastic. I want to say I paid about $35 each for them off Amazon. And the gator clip works extremely well - I've not had one come loose on me in all my travels with my Rolleis. I carry the cameras around with me often at home, and then I take them on the road whenever I travel as well.

http://www.amazon.com/For-Rolleiflex-Neck-Strap-New/ is the strap I've bought.

Good to know, I have heard varying reports locally about the Chinese alligator clips, nice to hear of somebody deploying them in real life who hasn't had a Rolleiflex come crashing to the ground as a result. I might investigate them further in the future.

One of the ones I have the clips operate smoothly, if you open them intentionally, but otherwise grip tight. The other one is a mother to get off - it really doesn't want to let go at all, but you can whip it into submission when needed. I have no worries about them coming off mid-shoot.

Thanks for all your answers. I've been into photography for years but for some reason I was not active on this forum, even if I am member of all the other photography forum out there. I have a photography website and I exhibited my work some years ago in Paris.

The reason I was curious about the adapters is that due to health issues I ve been facing lately I developed a new hobby that does not require to move so much as photography, that is leathercrafting, I have now a small shop on etsy where I sell mainly leather watch straps.....so I was looking for some new ideas....that's when I saw some straps for rolleiflex that came with new clips, so I was curious if anyone would now where to get them.

Now I understand not every rollei owner like those adapters...well...

I will think about this to see if some other ideas will come to me.

Thanks,

Francisco.

I use a modern China made cotton strap with the clips on my 3.5E. It doesn't work on my old 3.5 Tessar so I use an old thin nylon Canon strap-the kind that came with the camera-and loop it through the strap slots. Works fine.

FWIW, The strap shown in #7 seems to used a wide leather section to attach to the camera. Seems like a good idea to me.
