Rolleiflex Question, Fungus in Finder Lens

In a fit of madness, I bought myself an old model 2 Automat. I've been looking for something smaller and lighter than my Pentax 645 to pack around for black and white work, and this seemed to fit the bill. It was cheap, has good leather, the shutter is accurate enough, the finder is bright, the ground glass clear, as is the taking lens. No scratches, internal dust or cleaning marks.

I'll also admit that having 'Rolleiflex' written across the top had something to do with it, I've always wanted one, and this seemed like a good way to indulge, without too much guilt.

Only problem is, there's a fringing of fungus in the finder lens. I didn't notice it when I bought the thing, because it wasn't the lens I was worried about, and more worried about the brightness of the finder and mirror than the finder lens itself.

So, I guess after all this build up and back story, my question(s) is this. I'm sure it would cost more than the camera is worth to get it cleaned out, so, is this something I should just forget about and enjoy my new toy? Should I be worried about this at all? Could I get a lens spanner, and clean the lens out myself, or is this asking for trouble?

This is one of those things where 'if you have to ask' maybe you should let well enough alone.
I cleaned a good deal of haze and fungus from a Rollicord and had excellent results. If you have never taken a lens apart or taken a TLR apart, maybe try it first on a free or cheap camera.

I enjoy a camera in fine working order, and I consider money spent to overhaul a camera I like as money well spent.

I have heard that UV light kills fungus. Perhaps someone here knows for sure. I do on occasion in the Summer sit my Rolleis on the sun porch facing the sun so the lenses get a blast of UV.

I agree with jcmd. I would gladly spend for service to keep my Rolleiflex in great working order. It's a camera for a lifetime and not for replacement every 2-3 years. IMO

I've cleaned lenses like that in my time.

If you attempt it, digitally photograph every move so that you don't get confused when trying to reassemble.
