Hi all,

I have a Rolleiflex Automat 4 (just off eBay) and I'm trying to understand the manual about taking long exposures on bulb. The manual says to use the body release (shutter release trigger) guard to lock the release button for long bulb exposures. However with the button depressed, the guard cannot come close to engaging the release button. Can anyone help explain what they mean?

Also, the release trigger button on my camera is threaded on both the inside and outside. Should the outside threads have a cap in place?

Thanks,

John

The method works on my Rolleiflex...though I had never heard about it until your post (just tried it out) -- in the past I have just used a locking cable release. Using the locking lever just seem to run a bigger risk of camera movement.

I wonder if what may be confusing you is that the manual is referring to the swinging lever that is connected to the shutter release. It is usually used to keep from accidently fireing off the camera if the shutter is cocked. If this lever does not keep the shutter button from being depressed, then it probably won't keep the shutter open on the "B" setting.

My model is different than yous, but should work the same.

Use a cable release. The one time I have used the locking lever is when I set my Rolleiflex up to shoot some star trails. I just made sure to block out the lens with my hat when the camera was shaking.
