Posted this on the FB group but not great knowledge there. does anyone know if the lower roller on a rolleicord V should spin freely? the upper roller moves no problem but the lower one does not spin. trying to figure out why there is a very faint scratch on the outer edge of my negatives on the emulsion side.

I see both corrosion and a bit of a bend in the frame. There should be 2 screws hold that in place.

perhaps. ironically the scratch on the emulsion is on the other side of the frame. i think once i get it moving that will take care of it. the lens and images are bleeding sharp and beautiful, clean, without fault so i’d like to fix it for my ocd. you can see the very faint line running top to bottom of the image on the outer 2% of the right side frame. it is easiest to see on her arm where the light is hitting her. it's basically invisible and croppable, but now that i know it's there it's annoying.

So yeah, the lower roller is totally seized up if it indeed should be moving freely. I see some flat heads underneath it which seem to be holding in the frame of the roller assembly to the body of the camera. would removing those allow me to access the roller for cleaning?

You mentioned you saw a slight bend so I put some slight pressure on it spun it--and voila the roller is spinning (although it is grittier/noisier than the upper roller which moves nicely and quietly) i will try cleaning it and running another roll through it.

The Rolleicord V series are very capable cameras. But you know that already.

Cute baby!

Thanks. The cord xenar is my go to (and i have pentax 67, T, F planar, the Schneider rendering crushes them imo). Let's see if this works.

I must agree. That Xenar renders so beautifully- I don’t know what it is but when you see it it’s a “wow.” I have that lens on my ‘cord and Automat, it’s just beautiful. Cute baby!

Film transport rollers should turn smoothly with the weight of a 1/8 inch wide x 1/4 inch long down feather applied to it.

Remove the screws, reinstall with the roller at the same height with reference to the film guide rails in the image frame.
