Rolleicord cable release question

I have an old Rolleicord which I'm going to use for some long exposures at the coast this weekend.
I havn't used it with a cable release before and I'm not sure about the way it connects into this camera.
The cable release is at the front just below the taking lens. Pics:

Is that cable going to be out of shot?, not the plunger bit, but the bit where it screws into the camera body?

Without exposing film or asking someone there would be three ways to check:

-) by removing the the back and checking on an improvised groundglass (matted foil)

-) putting a ruler/scale on the cable where you think it interferes with the image, read the scale at the lower part of the finder end reduce this number by the distance between the centers of lenses.

-) looking up the angle of view of the lens (it is about 60°)


There are rigid right -ngle adapters for cable releases, but I don't think they are less obstrusive.

I've done this same approach many times with a 'cord III (which seems to be what you have) without getting the cable in the shot. If in doubt, open the back, put waxed paper over the film gate as a poor man's ground glass, and take a look.

That's probably good enough for me. I've tried the paper on the back thing and I couldn't see it but I wasn't 100%

You should have a hood on it if you're going out w/ the camera. Once you put one on, you'll see that the cable is nowhere near the lens angle of view.
